Longridge Wine Estate and its cellar master Jasper Raats continue showcasing the exceptional quality of their wines by being included in the 2017 Top 100 National Wine Challenge for the seventh consecutive year.
Raats walked off with a Double Platinum award for his own single vineyard label Driefontein Syrah 2014 and a Double Gold for his Elgin Pinot Noir, the Cuvée Rika 2015. The Longridge Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 received a Double Gold, while the Longridge Chenin Blanc 2015 was awarded a Double Silver.
According to Raats, these awards are not only proof of the consistency of the wines crafted by the Longridge winemaking team, but are also ground-breaking for organically produced wines. “In South Africa, there remains a misconception amongst some consumers that organic or bio-dynamic wines taste inferior from conventional wines. Being included in the Top 100 Challenge is confirmation that organic wines are at least on par with the other top wines produced in the country and we are very proud of that achievement. It remains an honour to be included in this prestigious challenge and to have our wines acknowledged in such highly contested categories,” mentions Raats.
The farm with its beautiful vistas is situated on the foot of the Helderberg and also has restaurant using organic or free range produce. Its first organically certified wines were released in 2016.
