CRITICAL CHANGE EXPECTED: SA TRUCKING WOES TO CONTINUE IN 2016 - 2020 SUMMARY: Crippling competition, rising interest rates and fuel prices, volatile global market, poorly performing local currency, falling demand for commodities, resulting in numerous contracts being cancelled on the back of such economic woes. OVERVIEW South Africa literary has thousands of trucking companies and operators. So, how do you distinguish the net worth and importance of sole operators to owners of multinational transportation fleets and of the industry as a whole? After all, they all provide various levels of valuable services to a critical industry that seems to lack co-ordination. From a macro-economic and socio-political aspect, trucking influences many parts of the South African economy; from being the link between cities for food and farm products to delivering petroleum and other vital and essential strategic services to many environmental aspects of SA commerce. Yet the industry has gone through major changes in the past 12 months, being influenced by crippling and still growing competition, rising interest rates, higher diesel and petrol prices and a volatile global market; not forgetting the latest Brexit fiasco. This is in addition to a poorly performing local currency, adding margin pressures to an industry already under strain from falling demand for commodities. For trucking involved in commodities, last year’s dramatic fall in the oil price sent coal, iron ore and other commodities in a downward spin, leaving many trucking operators wondering if they could bear any more economic and financial pressures, resulting in numerous contracts being cancelled on the back of such economic woes. The latest report by international research house BUSINESS CONSULTANTS INTERNATIONAL places this industry in context and forecasts the radically changing business environment to the year 2020. FORECAST FOR 2016 – 2020 Industry mergers and acquisitions expected . . .
Dear Mr Olivier It is with great disappointment to note the Senior Pastor's diabolical statements on race. This is the danger of zeal without knowledge, of you wanting to make social comments, but are ignorant of the history of the very country you purport to be a citizen of. Mr Andre, before you get up on the pulpit and make ignorant statements regarding black people, go and read about the Land Act of 1913, read about how black people where dispossessed of their land, engineering the poverty of millions of blacks, taxation that was deliberately enforced to drive people out of their homes in order to create cheap labour for the mines. When you want to talk about hard work, talk about the millions of black people who catch taxis everyday at 4am in the morning to be at work for 8am, spending 4hrs commuting and 60% of the salaries on transport. You do not deserve the position you're in, you're not a worthy representative of God, who made it clear neither Greek nor Jew. Out of the abundance of your heart, you have spewed your bile that is divisive and offensive. Do the honorable thing and resign, you're no representative of Jesus! When Jesus offended, it was always to challenge the religious order of the day (For the law was given through Moses, Grace and Truth came with Jesus Christ),to usher in His Kingdom. You would do well to go back to basics and read your bible and less fanning these racists fires that seem to be raging out of control in our beloved South Africa. Online entries for the 2016 Momentum Weekend Argus Knysna Cycle Tour are open and tour director Elwin Thompson says that the Knysna Rotary Club, which coordinates the tour every year, is looking forward to the biggest and best event ever. “The race, which celebrates its 29th year in 2016, has grown enormously since its inception and now comprises four very popular events – MTB events, road races, the SPUR Children’s Tour and the Forest Family Dam Ride. These take place on 2 and 3 July over the first weekend of the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival (1-10 July 2016).” The MTB event is one of the biggest in southern Africa and includes outstanding cycling routes through the Knysna forest. The 50 km and 80 km MTB races are official premier seeding events of the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour. There are four different MTB races in total for varying technical abilities - 80 km, 50 km, 30 km and 15 km, and routes include access to privately owned sections of property that are usually closed to the public. Says Thompson: “The routes are set up and managed by Leon Evans, known as Dr Evil and, while cyclists will be riding through one of the most scenic areas in the Garden Route, they will also have their skills tested to the maximum. “The 109 km road race follows a new route introduced in 2014 which was designed for enthusiastic, competitive roadies and will keep you working all the way to the finish line.” The route takes cyclists from Knysna to Sedgefield to Kleinkranz and back to Knysna. The 50 km route is from Knysna to Sedgefield and back along the N2. The SPUR Rotary Knysna Children's Cycle Tour is a safe, scenic race for children from 2 to 10 years of age and consists of three events which start and finish at the Knysna Oyster Festival Grounds, for 2-4 year olds, 5-7 year olds and 8-10 year olds. The successful 25 km Forest Family Dam Ride on Sunday, 3 July, is a relaxed MTB ride. It is open to a limited number of riders, 12 years and over with some . . .
