Constantia Glen taps into big bottle culture this winter
Discover the great longevity of Bordeaux-style wines locked up in magnum bottles at Constantia Glen, the picturesque boutique wine estate perfectly appointed on the cool slopes below Constantia Nek.
During the month of July, Constantia Glen is opening their vault of collector’s wine in 1,5 litre magnums. Visitors to the tasting room can enjoy 20% off when purchasing magnums of Constantia Glen TWO, THREE and FIVE. The exceptional ageing potential of these magnums make them the perfect addition to your wine collection at home or as gifts for friends and family.
“In magnum bottles the maturation process happens more slowly than in standard 750ml bottles. The reason for this is that there is twice the volume of wine to the same amount of air in the headspace between the wine and the cork. This means that proportionally there is a smaller oxygen to wine ratio. As oxygen helps maturation along, this process takes much longer in bigger bottles of wine,” explains Winemaker Justin van Wyk.
The slow maturation process leads to greater developed nuances and more complex aromas resulting in a fresher and fruitier wine in a magnum than in a standard bottle of the same vintage.
Over and above enjoying elegant wine when visiting Constantia Glen, enhance your experience by choosing from three mouth-watering soups, or add artisanal cheese and charcuterie to your wine tasting. The Constantia Glen tasting room is the ideal setting for a relaxing day spent taking in scenic views of rolling vineyards and outstretched mountains.
Known for exceptional cool climate Bordeaux-style red and white wines, Constantia Glen’s dryland vineyards are farmed without any irrigation. The tasting room is open from 10h00 till 17h00 from Sunday to Friday and 10h00 till 20h00 on Saturdays. Booking via http://www.constantiaglen.com is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
