Cape Town, September 19th: On September 22nd a live auction will be held offering a wide variety of material for stamp collectors and philatelists. Among the items on offer are some unique and rare stamps as well as exceptional postal history items.
Among the rarities is a unique block of stamps of the Republic of South Africa. It is described as follows:
Lot 190: First RSA Definitives – 1972-74 issue on Phosphor paper (perf 12½) R1 Strelizia cylinder 553-555B block of 6, bottom pair with ORANGE OMITTED (including cyl no 554), middle pair with ORANGE PARTIALLY OMITTED, all in superb UM condition, a MOST SPECTACULAR and RARE ERROR (SG 325a, SACC 337a) catalogue value is R1 million, excluding any premium for the positional piece, which is probably unique! It is estimated to sell at R150,000 to R200,000.
