Wine lovers who like to travel and enjoy the outdoors, will love the new easy-to-carry Unplugged62 wine in a pouch, which offers the ideal get up and go wine solution.
The range offers a Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot in a convenient 1.5 litre pouch, which is light to carry and has an 80% lower carbon footprint than two glass bottles. In addition, the special foil packaging will keep the wine fresh for up to a month after being opened.
The Unplugged62 is the first product range launched by The Unplugged62 Wine Co – a collaborative effort between Joubert-Tradauw situated on the popular Route 62 and the well-established Boland Cellar.
Joubert-Tradauw is a family-owned private cellar, situated just outside the picturesque village of Barrydale in the Klein Karoo along the famous route between Cape Town and Jeffrey’s Bay. The family has followed an “unplugged” lifestyle concept for many years and have staged numerous Unplugged62 music concerts on the farm, which is also home to the much-loved R62 Deli with its speciality Klein Karoo tapas.
Recently winemaker Meyer Joubert began to dream about releasing a wine that could reflect the spirit of their dream to a wider audience. He was however faced with the challenge of maintaining the uniqueness and brand positioning of their current classical Joubert-Tradauw wines. To meet the volume requirements, they also needed a bigger grape supply than their own as well as national distribution capacity.
“We decided to take on a partner that had the grapes for the right style of wine as well as the necessary distribution channels. Boland fitted the bill perfectly and was also willing to support my vineyard selection and wine making decisions,” explains Joubert.
Boland Cellar is located at the gateway to the R62 and was excited to become part of this ground-breaking initiative. “We felt that the presentation style of the brand should reflect something of the laid-back, unplugged lifestyle of country living and challenged convention by releasing the brand in this pouch format,” mentions Boland sales and marketing director Bennie van Rensburg.
The wines are medium-bodied with good structure and made in a style that offers fruitful abundance for immediate enjoyment. The 2012 Unplugged62 Sauvignon Blanc offers rich kiwi fruit and tropical flavours on the nose with a crisp palate and elegant finish. It is the ideal partner for al fresco dining on sunny summer days and goes well with cheese, nuts, seafood, pasta or just a salad.
The Merlot is rich in colour with strong plum and mint flavours on the nose. Firm, but soft tannins provide structure while pronounced cherry flavours are complemented by soft oak notes on the aftertaste. Perfect with any red meat dish or to enjoy on its own.
The Unplugged62 range is available from Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar, Boland Cellar as well as leading retail outlets from R64.99.
