With the high rate of unemployment opportunity in our country, Stats SA has recently released the unemployment rate stats that showed the slightly rate increase by 0, 1 to 29, 1% in Q 3 of 2019 in other industries but shows a decline in the Manufacturing, Trade and Construction industries.
SENGATANE Bricks and Cement Products, is one of the companies that saw a gap in the manufacturing building sector and came up with a plot to produce building blocks and supply locally: individuals and retailers with the aim of expanding to other provinces as well.
Since the company was created from 2017, it has created employment from the Sengatane village and surrounding rural areas to young people who have drop out from schools due to lack of funds and finished matric but don’t have funds to pursue their studies further. The company has created 37 employment opportunities within Limpopo province.
“We have seen the gap from in the market especially from our province and decided we do something about it. We have seen how young people of the Sengatane village, and the surroundings struggle to get employment especially those who were not fortunate enough to finish their matric. We then decided to create something that will help our people and give back to our community, says Solly Thaba, Marketing Director of SENGATANE Bricks and Cement Products.
“Our aim is to make other people’s live better and give back to our community. Our aim is to also empower the people in the villages by educating our young people that the manufacturing industry is another way to up skill ourselves, he continues.
With no funds to start or sustain the company we have had to tap into our family savings, we have worked hard to make sure our products go through the right processes and we produce a reputable product. Our brick products have undergone rigorous laboratory testing and certification processes by cement manufacturing and supply company, Larfage. The testing of our products is done on a monthly basis to make sure we supply our people with quality product.
“We are also in the process of expanding our products range to include the supply of paving bricks, all types of sands, lintels, and ready-made slabs in the foreseeable future. We take pride in our products and want people to believe in us and our product. We believe one day our company will grow from one province to another”, says Mr Thaba.
