Steers was at the forefront of painting Durban purple this past weekend as they payed #Respek to the devoted athletes and fans of Varsity Sports. The much-anticipated Varisty 7’s rugby and volleyball tournament was hosted at Durban’s Kings Park stadium from Friday the 1st until Sunday the 3rd Dec. After narrowly missing out of previous seasons, Tuks won the Varsity Volleyball Tournament. For the first time, UJ emerged victorious in the Varsity 7’s finals with 32-5 against Kosvies, serendipitously in front of UJ Alumni, Francois Pienaar.
Steers has been a passionate supporter of sporting excellence as a sponsor of Varsity Sports for the past 5 years. The brand activated at Kings Park stadium in their exclusive Chill Zone giving spectators a front row seat to all the action on the pitch. Spectators engaged in the Build Your Burger activation allowing them to build some life-size burgers in the quickest time possible in exchange for prizes.
Steers food trucks served burgers and chips to spectators that often-served food within seconds of placing the order. King Steer fans also received promotional items with their purchase. The stadium was filled with “Purple People” wearing Steers gear, amongst some shirts with the catchy phrase “If life throws you a burger, eat it”.
