But what can we actually do about it? Governments and businesses focus on long term, sustainable solutions but it’s not just their job to save the environment that we all rely on. We all live on planet Earth and it’s our job to help protect it for our children and their children. Here are seven small ways you can actively take part to help make a big difference: Contribute to the recycling movement Probably the easiest way to help is to recycle – it’s the commonest environment friendly action that people perform. It means you can avoid overusing valuable natural resources and start separating garbage by putting aside carton packages for recycling. Check your labels Many companies like ours try to make going green a viable option for you by using products made from natural, renewable, and recyclable resources. We let you know by marking the product packaging so that all you have to do is check the package when you’re at the supermarket. Look for the sign that it’s made from easily bio-degradable materials or to see if they originate from forests that are managed in sustainable ways that protect trees for the future. Cape Town, December, 7, 2017: Addiction and other self-destructive behaviours have a devastating effect on both the addict and their loved ones. Making the choice to book into a rehab facility and getting the necessary support and psychological help is paramount to long-term recovery and relapse prevention. But the treatment program chosen is just as important. Treatment for substance abuse and process-addictions is a complex matter that goes far beyond simply the abuse of drugs, alcohol, gambling and other vices. Treatment plans need to cater to the individual. There are countless rehab options available, so it is understandable to feel overwhelmed. Increasing there is a large group of professionals who support alternative recovery options to 12-Steps. When faced with the choice to opt for an alternative non-traditional program or traditional 12-Step program, what are the major benefits of opting for the newer, alternative treatment? The 12-Step Program and the Minnesota Model The 12-Step program was used in conjunction with the Minnesota Model which advocates complete abstinence from all mind-altering substances. 12-Step programs function more as peer support groups and self-help organisations. South African Filmmaker Invents New Documentary Storytelling Medium with 3D Technology 3D-Printed Art Installation, “WATERTIGHT”, Debuts This Week at Prestigious IDFA DocLab Amsterdam, Netherlands – (November 16, 2017) – WATERTIGHT is a 3D-scanned and 3D-printed specimen collection of New York City habitats and the individuals that reside alone within them. Created by South African filmmaker Caitlin Robinson and Israeli artist Ziv Schneider, the collection premieres this week at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam - DocLab Competition for Immersive Non-Fiction. Today, more than a third of New Yorkers live alone. This is the only documented period in human history that housing infrastructure has supported multitudes of single occupant households – and the phenomenon is growing exponentially in cities all around the world. To tell this story, the collaborators pioneered a new form of documentary that uses present-day bleeding edge technology to continue the natural history tradition of specimen archiving. From 2015 to 2017, backed by a grant from Google, Robinson and Schneider embarked on an archaeological expedition in the USA, using a depth sensor to discover and preserve the manifestations of present-day living alone. The final exhibit, called WATERTIGHT, is an incomplete archive of this recent development in human ecology. Peek into these 3D printed miniatures to explore a transient reality captured in a plastic fossil, the size of your palm. The captured depth sensor data was converted into physical replicas. A computational process, called “watertight”, uses the internal structure of the apartment to extrapolate an external shape that is suitable for 3D printing. This results in seemingly organic artifacts that represent a subjective reality as seen through the eyes of an algorithm. The first major World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) event of the year, the QS10,000 Ballito Pro presented by Billabong, ran through the Round 1 and first four heats of Round 2 in choppy one metre waves at Willard Beach on Monday. With 112 of the world’s best surfers chasing a share of the US $260,000 (approx. R3.3 million) and the biggest ranking points haul available on the QS, the action was fast and furious as the short-period swell provided plenty of waves. “For that heat my strategy was to get two average scores really quick in order just to start the heat. But there were so many waves coming and I didn’t know which one to take so I couldn’t find those waves in the beginning,” said 2014 Ballito champion Alejo Muniz (BRA), who finished runner-up in the last heat of the day to advance to the last 48. “It was really stressful and I was needing a very small score, just a 4, so when there was 5 minutes left I told myself to just wait for a wave with two turns, and I’m happy that I got it!” Jeremy Flores (FRA) has been coming to South Africa for many years and despite contemplating withdrawing from the event due to a recent leg injury, he won the final heat of the day. “The conditions are pretty hard so I think it’s anyone’s game and the one who catches the best wave is going to make the difference,” said Flores. “I’ve injured my leg so I wasn’t even sure if I was going to surf my heat But I told myself it’s only 30 minutes so I toughened up for two waves and I got through, so I’m stoked. Vibescout is now officially the largest movie aggregator in South Africa and continues to take the country’s entertainment scene to new heights. Cape Town, South Africa, July 5, 2017 – Co-founded in 2015 by brothers’ Paul and Jonathan Myburgh, Vibescout’s vision is to provide an easy-to-use platform used to smartly curate the best things to do near you. This is done through event listings, comprehensive go-to guides and now, movie listings. The idea behind Vibescout was first born when Paul was travelling in Saigon, Vietnam in January 2014.
