09 November 2017, Johannesburg, South Africa – TEDxJohannesburg has announced the speaker line-up for another TEDxSalon. This TEDxSalon, themed Between2Ends, is hosted with the support of the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s Enterprise Development Academy (GIBS EDA), on the back of last year’s successful first chapter. TEDxJohannesburgSalon: Between2Ends, will be held on Monday 13th November 2017 at the GIBS Campus in Illovo, Johannesburg, from 08:30am to 2:30pm.
TEDxSalon is an extension of the TEDx platform that affords communities the opportunity to engage outside of the standard TEDx event. In contrast to the open-ended nature of the standard event, a TEDxSalon focuses on a specific theme or issue of interest, providing an opportunity to spark robust discussion.
TEDxJohannesburgSalon: Between2Ends, will focus on social entrepreneurship. According to Kelo Kubu, TEDxJohannesburg convenor, social entrepreneurship, as defined by a speaker at the corresponding 2017 event, is “the seemingly empty space between the polar ends of the country’s socio-economic spectrum.” Kubu goes on to explain, “On one side you have the not-for-profit end, offering social value, motivated by benevolence. On the other side you have the for-profit end, offering economic value, motivated by profit.”
It is here, the organisers assert, where the rich and promising world of social entrepreneurship lives, and thrives.
The speaker line-up for TEDxJohannesburgSalon: Between2Ends, is typically varied.
Speakers include the following:
- Bongi Mkhabela: Impresario of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital
- Duduzile Mkhwanazi: Internet-access Evangelist
- Roche Mamabolo: Entrepreneurship Guru
- Nickey Janse van Rensburg: Urban Farming Researcher
- Christoph Castellaz: Mobile Health Enabler

TEDxJohannesburgSalon is an independently organized TEDx event and is operated under license from TED.
