Boxer Athletics Club top runners Precious Mashele, Kabelo Mulaudzi, and Chris Mhlanga are ready for a repeat showdown at the Boxer Super Run Durban this coming Sunday, 12 October 2025.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the trio celebrated a clean sweep in the Elite Men\u2019s Race, with Mashele claiming the top step of the podium and once again becoming the fastest South African on home soil (at that time) with a lightning-fast time of 13:39. Mulaudzi came in second (13:40), while Mhlanga finished third (13:43).<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, I won the Boxer Super Run in Durban on my birthday, which was very special for me,\u201d admits Mashele. \u201cBecause of the good prize money, the field for the Boxer Super Run is always strong. There are 5km and 10km road runners, as well as 1?500m and 5?000m track athletes, all competing for the prize. That tough competition is what pushed me to run a fast time in Durban.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning the race has meant a lot to me because I used the prize money to continue building my house in Limpopo,\u201d Mashele continues. \u201cI was also proud to win for my club, Boxer, because they have been supporting me for many years. This year, I\u2019ve been struggling with injury, which is why I\u2019m motivated to come back strong and win my club race \u2013 to thank Boxer and Ntate Swanepoel (Rhyn Swanepoel, Boxer AC\u2019s Club Manager) for all their support during difficult times. The prize money will be a nice bonus, especially since I haven\u2019t been able to race much this season. My target is to be ready for the Boxer Super Run on 12 October.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharing his excitement, Kabelo Mulaudzi said: \u201cI\u2019ve generally run well in Durban. The 5km and 10km are my favourite distances, so the Boxer Super Run Durban is an event I really look forward to. I think I have a good chance of winning the race, but part of my success comes from being very respectful of my opponents. My goal is a win and a personal best. I try to stay flexible with my racing tactics, but generally, I find my strength and speed in the last 2km help me perform well. Durban has always been a special venue for me \u2013 the course and the beachfront always fill me with excitement and a desire to perform at my best.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked what message he\u2019d like to share with social runners, Mulaudzi said: \u201cI hope that, first and foremost, they enjoy the challenge of finishing a 5km race with their best possible performance. My advice is not to start too fast, but rather to finish strong. It\u2019s always better to finish strongly than to charge at the start and struggle in the second half.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Mhlanga also shared his thoughts ahead of the race: \u201cThe Boxer Super Run is special because, as Boxer AC athletes, we get to showcase our talent in our very own biggest 5km super run in the country. My goal is to finish on the podium again. I don\u2019t think my strategy will change from last year \u2013 we worked hard towards the finish. I always feel great racing in Durban because we usually produce strong results there. I love that it\u2019s not an easy course, yet we still manage our best times. To other runners: go out there, have fun, enjoy yourself, and be prepared to run fast times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the club\u2019s past performances, Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores, said: \u201cIt was such a proud moment in 2024 to see Boxer Athletics Club round off the Elite Men\u2019s podium at the Boxer Super Run in Durban. Launched in 2023 in a partnership between Stillwater Sports, Boxer Superstores and Coca-Cola, the Boxer Super Run is a world class 5km road run. With 5km being the most popular distance globally, the event attracts a diverse range of participants, from seasoned athletes seeking to challenge their limits to newcomers venturing into the world of road running.<\/p>\n

In the Open Wave, the top three men and women in the Junior, Open, 40\u201349, 50\u201359, 60\u201369, and 70+ categories will also be recognised and rewarded for their performances.<\/p>\n
