<\/span>Volvo 850 R<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Following the success of the limited-run 850 T-5R, the mid-1990s Volvo 850 R brought that same performance spirit to South Africa. With its turbocharged five-cylinder engine and understated yet sporty design, it delivered genuine sports car pace in a family sedan (or wagon). Fresh from Volvo\u2019s British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) campaign, the 850 R arrived with motorsport credibility that only cemented its reputation as a local hero. <\/span><\/p>\n

Introduced in 2002, the first-generation XC90 quickly became the unofficial car of choice for Sandton and Constantia families, blending safety, luxury, and practicality in a seven-seater package. Most buyers opted for the sensible engines, but Volvo also offered a 232 kW 4.4-litre V8 which gave the family SUV a surprising performance edge.<\/span><\/p>\n
