Most South African fleet operators currently rely on fuel card reconciliation, driver-reported receipts, or vehicle ECU (dashboard) readings to monitor fuel consumption. Each of these methods shares a critical weakness: they detect loss only after it has already happened \u2014 typically days or weeks later during manual reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Vehicle dashboard fuel gauges, in particular, rely on CANBUS data that manufacturers filter and smooth for driver convenience \u2014 not for auditing accuracy. These readings routinely mask smaller theft events and cannot provide reliable litre-level verification.<\/p>\n

At R26 per litre, even modest daily losses compound rapidly. A single truck losing 50 litres per week to siphoning loses approximately R65,000 per year. For a 20-vehicle fleet, undetected fuel leakage can exceed R1.3 million annually.<\/p>\n
