The balance of player recruitment will be covered by the open market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Draft system forms a core part of the MRL\u2019s broader vision to build a modern professional rugby ecosystem rooted in fairness, structure and long-term commercial growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Launching in March 2027, the MRL Premier Division will feature 10 founding clubs competing in a full home-and-away professional season across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the league, the Draft process will allow clubs to build their inaugural squads through a structured player allocation system ahead of the 2027 season.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_MRL_says_the_objective_of_the_system_is_to\"><\/span><strong>The MRL says the objective of the system is to:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">create competitive balance<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">distribute talent across clubs<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">expand professional player opportunities<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">avoid excessive concentration of talent within a small number of teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><i>\u201cThe Draft system is about building a healthier long-term league ecosystem,\u201d said&nbsp;<\/i><i>Matthew Kriel, Head of Recruitment at the MRL.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>\u201cWe want clubs entering Season 1 with the ability to compete, build identities and grow&nbsp;<\/i><i>supporter bases over time.
