The popular programme of edutaining talks will start with Reflections from the Field: Twenty Years of Amphibian Conservation on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Renowned amphibian conservationist Dr Jeanne Tarrant (AKA South Africa\u2019s Frog Lady) enlightens visitors at Fish Eagle Caf\u00e9 before leading a frog walk through the wetland areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrocworld has always been about connecting people with the natural world, and these edutainment evenings allow us to take that a step further,\u201d says Susan Badat, Manager of Crocworld Adventure &amp; Conservation Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want people to leave entertained, but also having learnt something new and developed a greater appreciation for the wildlife around them. Starting with frogs is particularly exciting because these incredible animals play such an important role in our ecosystems, yet are often overlooked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meet South Africa\u2019s \u2018Frog Lady\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr Tarrant has spent two decades working to protect threatened amphibians and their habitats across southern Africa. She is Director of Anura Africa and Regional Chair for Southern Africa of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, and established and led the Endangered Wildlife Trust\u2019s Threatened Amphibian Programme for 12 years \u2013 protecting South Africa\u2019s most threatened frog species.<\/p>\n<p>Her contribution to amphibian conservation has received international recognition. In 2020, she received the prestigious Whitley Award, often referred to as the \u2018Green Oscar\u2019, presented following a highly competitive selection process and featured in a film narrated by David Attenborough. In 2024 she was also a finalist in the Rolex Awards for Enterprise \u2013 part of the Rolex Perpetual Planet initiative \u2013 selected from more than 1 500 applicants worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond her scientific work, Dr Tarrant is passionate about public education. She is the author of My First Book of Southern African Frogs and created the annual Leap Day for Frogs awareness campaign.
