On Wednesday 19 November 2025 at 09:00, the\u00a0Western Cape Provincial Parliament will host a virtual civil society engagement focussing on the aged with the theme \u201cEnjoying the golden years: protecting the aged from harm\u201d. Against the background of the physical challenges and particularly the abuse that many elderly experience, this event will bring together key role players in elder care to discuss the status, wellbeing, safety and security of older persons.<\/p>\n
Programme participants include, among others, the Western Cape Provincial Parliament\u2019s Standing Committee on Social Development, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Commission for Gender Equality.<\/p>\n
Input will be received from organised representatives from all district in the province on the lived experiences of the elderly and provide key recommendations, including Beit-ul-Aman in the Cape Metro, Nonkululeko Service Centre in the Cape Winelands, Lukhanyiso Love in Action in the Garden Route, ACVV Somerkoelte in the West Coast, ACVV Heidehof in the Overberg and ACVV Hesperos in the Central Karoo.\u00a0For more information on the programme, click here.<\/p>\n
