Since 1969, the Sandton Chronicle has been the voice of the community and today delivers hyper-local accurate news and advertising messages to 51 650 doorsteps in the Sandton area every Wednesday.

Over the years the Chronicle has continued to cover all things community – from the dreaded property rates, crime and potholes to 100-year birthdays and school sports days.

The Chronicle team, as Sandton grows, has grown too by incorporating news from the business sector which has a massive impact on the area.

How did Sandton get it’s name? Can you imagine Sandton being called Zandfontein or even Sandpark, Sandia, Sandrand or Sandston?

According to Professor Jane Carruthers, author of Sandton – the Making of a Town, the Rand Daily Mail took it upon itself to ask the public for more suitable names. Sandown proved to be the most popular but after some debate, Sandton was chosen.
