With its focus on the people of South Durban and surrounding areas, the Sun has managed to give a weekly dose of local content to its readers. The paper is definitely worth the read for all residents of the southern suburbs who need to know what is going on in their community.

The paper also offers a variety of retail shopping offers inside its weekly editions. The Sun is part of the Caxton local newspaper group, which has, through the years, set itself as one of the company’s foremost local titles, as it won Newspaper of the Year in 2009.

The Sun prides itself through subscribing to the Press Code of Conduct and on its strong social media ethics. Also on ensuring its readers receive well researched, objective news which is relevant to their lives. It has shown this ability through breaking major national stories ahead of their national and daily media counterparts.

The Sun’s news team is a custodian of the paper’s quality to ensure that readers can rely on a source of credible, breaking news as it unfolds. This is achieved through the www.southlandssun.co.za website. The same vision is applied also to the paper’s site to keep readers updated.

The Sun practices fair, but critical reporting when it uncovers injustices in the community and highly upholds its role as the watchdog of the community.
