In her address, Helen Zille commended the newly elected SRC, focusing on the theme of respect. “The last SRC election was won by the EFF, and this time the blue team has shown them who will govern South Africa in the future. Thank you for showing your commitment. You get the government you vote for, and if you want decent services and accountability, you’ve come to the right place. Mister President Mbuzwana, we will be watching you carefully. Much has been entrusted to you, and much will be expected in return,” she remarked. NJ’s Cut The Kids in Half share new single “A Good Man Died”

New Jersey outfit Cut The Kids In Half are excited to share their second-ever single “A Good Man Died,” a tense, searing track rife with vocal control and creative vision beyond the band’s teenage years, along with an official video that shows off their DIY roots and live prowess. A duo named after Radiohead’s “Morning Bell,” brothers Charlie and Jack Silver (ages 17 and 18 respectively) are a compelling young band cutting their teeth the old-fashioned way: playing gig after gig on their local scene. Following their 2022 single “The Quiet Life of August,” it’s clear that “A Good Man Died” is the fruit of a season of artistic growth, as vulnerability collides with catchy riffs. “‘A Good Man Died’ was born out of a horribly toxic relationship,” says vocalist and lyricist Jack Silver. “It’s about two people who have given up but are too attached and afraid to make their escapes. It’s an intense glimpse into a love story approaching the edge of a cliff." The release marks the beginning of a raw yet focused artistic era, one that mixes grit with anguished, honest songwriting. As they preview their debut LP, listeners can expect a record filled with collaboration and masterful storytelling. The brothers’ teenage perspective adds sensitivity to their alt-rock sound, edgy but not jaded—their lyrics read like despair, but their songs sound like hope. The Queen will host the ‘Maiden’ yachting crew at Clarence House to congratulate them on their unprecedented win of the Ocean Globe Race, becoming the first ever all-female crew to win an around-the-world yacht race. The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race (OGR) is a fully crewed, retro race, in the spirit of the 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race, marking the 50th anniversary of the original event. Racing without computers, GPS, and high-tech materials, they navigate with sextants and paper charts. The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race saw 14 boats set sail from Cowes for the journey of over 27,000 nautical miles, spanning four legs via three great Capes – starting and ending in the UK with stops in South Africa, New Zealand, and Uruguay. This year’s race marks the 50th anniversary of the first Whitbread Round the World Race. Three decades ago, skipper Tracy Edwards MBE and her all-female crew finished second – winning two of the six legs – in the 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World Race aboard the 58ft Maiden yacht. The crew were the first all-female team to take part in an around-the-world yacht race. In 2018, the yacht was repurposed for a world tour to raise awareness and funds for girls’ education. Ahead of its departure, the King and Queen, as Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, visited the refurbished boat with HRH Princess Haya, who facilitated the refurbishment of the yacht. In September 2023, initiated by Tracy Edwards, Maiden embarked on the Ocean Globe Race with the most diverse professional sailing crew ever to sail the world. Hailing from the UK, Antigua, USA, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Italy, France and Afghanistan, the crew includes the first black female crew and the first Middle Eastern female crew to race around the world – helping to reflect and celebrate the people, traditions, values and beliefs of the cultures on their 28,000-mile marathon around the world. NEWS RELEASE As Mental Health Awareness Month approaches, Swanson puts emphasis on probiotics

More than a gut feeling As Mental Health Awareness Month approaches, Swanson puts emphasis on probiotics (Fargo, ND – April 24, 2024) – What if one path to better emotional health led not through the brain, but through the gut? That’s the science behind probiotics and other so-called “gut healthy” products, some of which are sold by Fargo-based vitamin and supplement company Swanson. But this is no well-timed product plug. The stakes are high, says Britta Sather, licensed nutritionist at Swanson. “It's widely known that nutrition plays a key role in your physical health, but nutrition directly affects our mental and emotional well-being, too,” she explained. “Our gut is often referred to as our “second brain”, because of the close relationship between the gastrointestinal tract and the Central Nervous System.” Among other offerings, Swanson is emphasizing Dr. Stephen Langer’s Ultimate 16 Strain Probiotic during Mental Health Awareness Month. Sather continued: “Your GI tract houses billions of bacteria that influence the chemical substances that carry messages from the gut to the brain, like dopamine and serotonin. Eating nutritionally rich foods promotes good bacteria which helps produce chemicals that send positive messages to the brain. And when your GI tract is fed “bad” bacteria from foods like sugar, the chemicals are imbalanced which in turn can lead to an imbalanced mood.’ Swanson’s Dr. Stephen Langer’s Ultimate 16 Strain Probiotic formula also includes the prebiotic FOS and ConcenTrace® trace minerals, which are not found in any off-the-shelf product. Prebiotics and trace minerals are important because most individuals are lacking them in their diets, yet they're absolutely vital to the enzymatic processes necessary for healthy digestion and the maintenance of beneficial bacteria. Both Dr. Langer and Sather are available for media interviews throughout the month of May to discuss the important connection between gut health and overall …

The Halloween Candy with the Scariest Amounts of Sugar, New Data Reveals

This Halloween, a new study has found that Nerds Candy contains the highest quantity of sugar, as opposed to Twizzlers which has the least. The research, conducted by nicotine pouch enthusiasts Snusboss, analyzed over 50 beloved Halloween candies to uncover which products contained the most sugar per 100 grams. Nerds Candy leads the ranking this Halloween with a notable 93g of sugar per 100g. With over 135,000 pounds of Nerds produced every single day, a recommended serving size of 15g is advised due to its substantial sugar content, representing 27% of the daily recommended added-sugar intake. Securing second position is Sour Patch Kids, which, despite their relatively low-calorie content, measuring in at 367 calories per 100g, contain a significant 80g of sugar. These fun-shaped snacks have enjoyed popularity among consumers since their establishment in 1985. Unfortunately, they also rank among the candies with the highest sugar content per serving, with 30g of product containing 24g of sugar. In third place is Swedish Fish. Despite sharing a similar calorie count with Sour Patch Kids at 367 per 100g, Swedish Fish contain a slightly lower sugar content of 77g per 100g. It's important to highlight that indulging in five of these small fish-shaped candies will contribute to a significant 46% of your recommended daily added sugar intake. With an astonishing annual production of over 9 billion kernels and its own national day, Candy Corn secures the fourth spot, containing 74g of sugar per 100g of the product. This seasonal favorite might make trick-or-treaters hesitate, as it ranks among the candies with the highest sugar content per serving, with 23g of sugar in a recommended 30g portion. Skittles, another candy beloved by Americans, claims the fifth position with 73g of sugar per 100g of the product—just falling short of Candy Corn. This colorful treat's appeal extends across the globe, as it's sold in more than 60 countries. However, even a small …
