13 Google Business Profile Tips and Tricks 2022

You are here: Home / Featured / 13 Google Business Profile Tips and Tricks 2022

(MyPR.co.za) September 11, 2022 By //  by Bibi Burness Filed Under: Featured, General Business, Technology Edit This Article

Every business today needs a focused Google presence. Most companies know this requires optimizing their websites and their Google Ads. Still, most are unaware that a third entity also requires optimization: their Google business listing. This explosive listing, also known as your business profile, is a dynamic representation of your organization that highlights your best attributes and enables potential customers to recognize, understand, and interact with you directly from the SERP. What is the best? It has no charges whatsoever.

According to a study, the average business profile only saw 1,260 views or 0.00000075% of the 167 billion searches performed on Google monthly. And to make matters worse, only 59 of the 1,260 views were captured. That amounts to less than 5%. So the problem isn’t the Google Business platform per se; rather, not nearly enough businesses take advantage of its superb features.

It’s time to put what you’ve learned about how crucial it is to enhance your Google Business Profile to show up in local search results, stand out from the competition, and attract customers online to use.

  1. Open a Google Business profile.

Remember that a Google Business Profile is different from a Google Business account. The latter is employed to access and enhance the former. So, to carry out the optimizations outlined in this article, you must first obtain a Google Business account and request that it be linked to your Google Business Profile. Then, to register, visit Google.com/business and sign in with the standard Google/Gmail account you use for business (as opposed to your personal Gmail, if you have one).

  1. Finish each chapter.

Your Google Business Profile will be more useful to clients and help your company rise in the search engine’s local rankings if you take the time to fill it out completely. Here are some rules for prioritizing, as there is a lot of data to provide.

You should immediately finish the following profile sections:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone
  • Website
  • Hours

These sections demand a little more time and consideration:

  • Category and Qualities
  • goods and services
  • from the enterprise
  • Questions and responses (Owner-generated queries)

These sections continue to exist:

  • Posts
  • Reviews
  • Questions and responses (Consumer-generated)
  1. Be precise with your contact details.

The following actions can help you make your Google Business Profile’s contact information more effective:

Make sure your company’s name matches what is displayed on your store signage. Alternatively put, exactly as it looks in the real world. Google considers adding place names (unless they are part of your brand name) or keywords to be spam, and you risk being penalized.

Ensure that your company’s name and address match other online listings. This calls for regularly using “st” rather than “street” or “co” rather than “company.” These discrepancies are considered by Google’s algorithm when determining your credibility.

Specify your business hours, including any holidays. This encourages people to come into your store and helps you avoid the possibility of someone driving out to your store to discover it was closed and leaving a bad review.

  1. Write your “from the business” description

The primary consideration is that the brief description in your business profile right below your company name is not something you have control over. Google creates this editorial summary to maintain consistency across the platform.

Google does a fantastic job at coming up with descriptions, which is wonderful news. In addition, you have control over the report in your Google Business account dashboard’s “from the business” area. This area usually comes below the reviews section of your profile, lower down.

To make your Google Business Profile’s “from the business” section as effective as possible:

  • Use 750 characters, concentrating the most important information in the first 250.
  • Use material from your goal statement or “About Us” page.
  • Use search terms that your target market uses to identify companies like yours.
  • Don’t repeat any details already included in your profile’s other parts. Instead, use this section to discuss how your company differs from its rivals and what aspects its clients find most appealing.
  • Links and HTML should not be used.
  1. Decide on a category.

A category must be selected for your Google Business Profile to be optimized. This is why:

  • Discovered through discovery searches.Unfortunately, only 16% of views of business profiles on Google come from direct inquiries. In comparison, 84% of ideas come from discovery searches (i.e., the consumer searched for a good, service, or category, and the business’ profile appeared) (the consumer typed in the business name or address). This is especially true for companies like Fresh Express or Amelia’s Catering, whose names don’t identify their services.
  • Highlight features unique to each category.Once you select a category, Google gives you access to category-specific features that enhance the effectiveness and appeal of your profile. For instance, restaurants may include a menu or a reservation button, hotel profiles may contain star ratings, and hair salons may attest to their familiarity with thin or curly hair. These details may persuade customers to choose you over rivals.

Your category is shown in the top section of your Google Business Profile. However, there are only a certain amount of categories available on Google, so picking the right ones is crucial. Here’s how to use categories to improve your Google Business Profile:

  • Be precise.Select “Nail Salon” rather than “Salon” if you own a nail salon. Choose “Egyptian Restaurant,” “American Restaurant,” etc. instead of “Restaurant” if you are a restaurant. When you begin typing, a drop-down choice of categories will display; However, you can also view the complete list of GMB categories here to make sure you choose the most relevant one for your company (there are over 3,000 categories, so it’s worth a look).
  • Select auxiliary categories.Numerous companies fit within multiple categories. Choose additional categories that are applicable, such as “Grocery Delivery Service” or “Gourmet Grocery Store,” and set your primary category to your main service (for instance, “Grocery Store”).
  • Don’t go overboard.Choose only categories that correspond to your offering if you want Google to link you with customers that require your service. For example, if you operate an appliance repair shop, choose “Appliance Repair” and not “Appliance Parts Supplier.” Technically speaking, you do offer service parts, but this is not a service your company provides on its own. (Pro tip: categorization should not be confused with qualities or products, which are two other sections.)

Additionally, if you change or add many categories, Google may ask you to validate your business. To maintain accuracy across their entire platform, this is.

  1. Select applicable attributes

As we just discussed, Google will provide you with a list of criteria you can tick off to characterize your business further when you select a category. For example, a particular feature a potential buyer looks for is an attribute, such as “on-site gift shop” or “free wi-fi.”

No attributes are unique to the Google Business platform (review sites like Yelp have them, too). However, Google’s qualities are specific, such as “excellent for laptop work” or “popular with travelers.”

  1. Insert images

For three reasons, it’s crucial to upload images to your Google Business profile through the dashboard:

  • Ensure excellence.Since anyone can upload images to your business profile, you’ll find a variety of quality. Therefore, your profile will appear at its finest if you add your fantastic photos.
  • Take action.Regularly adding photographs shows Google that you are updating and maintaining your profile, which benefits your ranking.
  • Results that include photos.Google is improving its recognition of images and has begun to include photographs in local results.
  • Boost involvement.According to Google, customers are 35% more likely to click on a business’s website and 42% more likely to ask for driving directions if it includes photos in its Business Profile. Additionally, a survey revealed that companies with more than 100 photos receive 525 percent more calls, 2,717 percent more requests for directions, and 1,065% more website clicks than the typical company.

This does not imply that you should go bonkers and upload all of your profile photos at once. Instead, follow these tips to use pictures to improve your Google Business Profile:

  • Every week, you should upload at least one new idea.
  • Upload your logo as the thumbnail image.
  • Use a picture that best symbolizes your brand as your cover photo, but don’t worry about it too much because Google will show different feature photographs based on the search query.
  • Refer to Google’s photo rules for specifics on various types of photos, but make sure to include team photos, pleased clients, and shots of the inside and outside buildings.
  • No stock images, no photos with branding or effects, etc. Google aims to accurately reflect how your company would appear in the real world.
  • Concentrate on clear, high-quality pictures (to align with image-enriched results).

If a particular image matches the keyword entered, Google will immediately retrieve it from a Business Profile and display it in local results.

  • Geotag your images to provide Google with more information about your local significance.
  • Add videos as well!

To add a 360-degree photo to your profile, use the Google Street View app.

  1. Request reviews on Google

Which company would you pick if you were given a selection of options similar to the one below in search results? For example, which of the two listings below with no reviews or the one with four lovely yellow stars?

Reviews are the principal determinant in customer purchasing, and Google is aware of this, making them a crucial ranking element in their algorithm. Additionally, you can verify for yourself how reviews affect ranking. In what is referred to as the

“Local 3-Pack,” the first three local results that show up for the majority of searches made on Google are the ones with a lot of reviews and high star ratings:

Additionally, if a business profile contains reviews with such terms, Google might potentially show it in search results.

Your reviews’ keywords will be bolded by Google to confirm their relevance further. Follow these recommendations to make your Google Business Profile with reviews stand out from the crowd:

  • Start with your most devoted, long-term consumers to get the ball rolling.
  • By generating a review shortcut link or utilizing Whitespark’s generator, make it as simple as possible for customers (both are free).
  • Ask! If requested, 62% of consumers will leave a review. Use email, text, social media, and face-to-face talks.
  • Remind customers that evaluations are helpful to others as well as you by enabling those who share their problems to find a solution and choose wise selections.
  • Have a CTA for leaving a review on your website’s “Reviews” page.
  • Respond to reviews. This feedback encourages more consumers to leave theirs, tells potential customers a lot about your company, and helps your local SEO.

Though it is not permitted, take caution not to provide discounts, presents, or cash in exchange for evaluations.

  1. Upload content to your Google Business Profile

You can add information about announcements, deals, events, and products to your Google Business Profile, just like on social media sites. Posts are made in your Google Business dashboard and appear at the bottom of your Business Profile in the “Updates” section. Nevertheless, dependent on the search query, they might become more noticeable.

You can optimize your Google Business Profile by doing the following:

  • The quantity of activities consumers who find your profile take is increased by posts.
  • Similar to how adding photographs increases rankings, frequent posting does the same.
  • Your Google posts have a higher chance of being interacted with by potential customers since they have stronger intent on search engines than other posting platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram, where they casually scroll).
  • Customers can subscribe to your Business Profile to receive updates and notifications of new posts.
  • Even on Maps, your Google Business postings will be visible—free advertising for your nearby company!

Your suggestions for improving your Google Business Profile with postings are as follows:

  • Not only to inform Google but also because some post types have a seven-day expiration period.
  • When creating marketing campaigns using a timeline, use events, and offer posts. The posts will remain active for the duration of the date range you specify.
  • Make sure each post has links and CTAs.
  1. Ask and respond to inquiries

Have you ever noticed a section on Amazon that includes questions and answers in addition to the product description and user reviews? In Google Business Profiles, Google provides a similar option.

These responses might influence a customer’s decision to choose your company. However, this component needs to be optimized because anybody can answer questions posted on a company’s Google page besides asking them. This can result in false information being published on your profile, or even worse, something like the Q&A that appears on the shape of this pizzeria.

You cannot deactivate the Q&A section of your company profile. But, on the other hand, there are measures to increase its efficiency:

  • Create notifications to keep track of the questions and answers posted to your profile.
  • Establish your own Q&A section.Make a list of the questions that come up most often for your company. Ask a question, respond, and then rate your response on your profile. This does not break Google’s terms and conditions. Google supports it.
  • Remember your keywords. The ranking of your Business Profile for a certain keyword might be enhanced by questions and answers that contain that term. So, when seeding your Q&A area, keep your keyword strategy in mind, but use them sparingly and naturally, and avoid keyword stuffing.
  • You can ensure accurate information, promote your best qualities, and lower common entry barriers by monitoring and seeding your Q&A section.
  1. Include goods and services

Adding products and services might be extremely useful if your business name does not clarify what you offer. By filling out this part, you give your profile more content that may boost its ranking for even more pertinent queries. Include the name, description, and cost of any products or services you add (if applicable). Once a searcher clicks on the item, the complete description will appear. Additionally, Google can include links to your products in its category section.

  1. Establish messaging.

Using this capability, searchers can now send a text message to your phone directly from your Google Business Profile. This is a fantastic opportunity for customers to contact you because 82% of smartphone shoppers (and 92% of millennials) use their devices for local searches.

You can install messaging via Google Play or the Apple App Store. Choose the “Messaging” tab in your Google Business dashboard to enable messaging.

Regarding Google Business messaging, two points:

  • You won’t have to be concerned about disclosing your actual phone number because you’ll be using Google’s Allo app, which uses a different number.
  • Make sure you configure message alerts on your Google Business dashboard. For example, check the “Customer messages” box in settings.
  1. Keep your Google Business Profile updated.

As you can see, creating a Google Business Profile is an ongoing marketing project. It’s a local marketing tool that needs constant attention if you want to improve your internet visibility and get the most out of it. This comprises:

  • Updating data, even if it’s just a small modification like the suite number.
  • Weekly posting of blog entries and photo uploads.
  • Maintaining an ongoing flow of reviews.
  • Reviewing evaluations and reacting to them.
  • Keep up with new features to ensure you get the most out of your profile.

The goal of your Google Business plan should be to fill Google with as much high-quality information as possible about your firm, including your website, review site profiles, and social media accounts.

Any Google search engine optimization approach must account for this. Although we cannot be aware of every factor in determining a website’s ranking, we know its overarching purpose: to help users find the best company for their needs. Therefore, concentrate on using your Google Organization dashboard to get your Business Profile to precisely and completely represent your business. Then, maintain this, and you will gain from it.
