Collins Property, a fourth-generation property development company based in Durban, have commenced construction on what will become Somerset West’s most exclusive lifestyle estate. Mzuri Estate, with a total contract value of close to R900m will incorporate an initial product offering including 68 single-residential homes, 32 townhouses and 136 apartments.

Having been through a lengthy municipal process with the key focus on aligning the requirements of local government with the vision of the developer, the development team has confirmed that all approvals are now firmly in place. Collins are in a position to move forward positively with the construction process and there will be no further delays.

Leading industry property development firm Lazercor Developments have been appointed as development managers for the estate and headed up the groundbreaking ceremony in Somerset West this week. Lazercor are property leaders in innovation and sustainable solutions and have been hand selected for their experience in similar large residential estate developments as well as their extensive knowledge of the Somerset West area.

The newly approved and updated site development plan for Mzuri Estate offers one of the last properties with uncluttered views over the False Bay and fantastic value to purchasers in a property market where value is hard to come by. Located in Bizweni Avenue, the estate boasts an all-inclusive lifestyle offering with a firm focus on contemporary, eco-friendly design, innovative technologies, indigenous landscaping, paired with state-of-the-art connectivity and security.

According to Lazercor’s lead project manager Alister Human, Lazercor adds value for all stakeholders by offering clients an effective and efficient service of the highest quality. “Our comprehensive understanding of strategy and vision coupled with years of industry experience, allow Lazercor to successfully manage an entire project such as Mzuri by integrating all the different aspects into a cohesive project plan.”

Lazercor has commissioned an experienced professional team, as well as dedicated sales and marketing experts to maximise the potential of the site for prospective buyers. Due to all the regulations governing property development, specialist requirements have to be met in the respective fields involved with any development and the amount of work involved in putting a development of this magnitude together should not be under estimated. Lazercor are committed to delivering a superior product, which aligns to the values of all internal stakeholders, prospective investors as well as those of local government.

Somerset West-based contractors DP2 Construction have been appointed to execute the civil engineering works on the property. DP2 commenced construction on Summerhill Road in mid-2018 (the link between Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Road and Bizweni Avenue), which unlocks the greater property’s full potential. The scope of work with a total contract value of R 23m includes a significant upgrade to the intersection at Reunion Drive, which is sure to add significant value to the residents of the area. DP2 are ahead of programme and within budget, which will allow the developers to commence with the bulk services of the estate sooner than expected.

Manor Homes, one of the leading residential contractors in the greater Helderberg area, have been appointed to construct the homes and townhouses in the first phase of the development. Manor Homes’ reputation and track record speaks for itself and the importance of appointing the correct principal contractor on a development of this size is key to its success. The ground-breaking ceremony marks the commencement of the estate show house, boundary walls, technology and security infrastructure, and gatehouses which will create approximately 200 local job opportunities.

The three-bedroom signature show house unit will be completed in September 2019 and will showcase the high quality, contemporary lifestyle product that future residents can expect from the developers. Upon completion of the above, Manor Homes will shift its focus to the internal roads and services of the estate, as well as the estate’s luxury clubhouse, followed shortly thereafter by the top structure for the homes and townhouses – with residents estimated to take occupation of the first units in May 2021.

Mzuri will be the first self-sufficient development in the Western Cape with its own waste water treatment plant servicing the water requirements of the estate. This required rigorous negotiations with the City of Cape Town and will enable the development to adequately treat its own water for re-use in irrigation as well as sanitary systems, which will significantly reduce water consumption.

Mzuri Estate includes the option of freestanding homes, townhouses and apartments – all featuring a number of design options and affordability points in each category. The prime location is close to key amenities, including top schools, state-of-the-art medical facilities, pristine beaches, diverse retail opportunities, outdoor activities as well as award-winning wine estates and restaurants.
