- Cut Tools Garden lists its pruning shears, loppers and hedge tools for the spring growth season
- The Pietermaritzburg supplier offers secateurs, bypass and anvil loppers, hedge tools and parts, plus sharpening and servicing for gardeners and landscapers.
PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa – Spring rain in KwaZulu-Natal means hedges that need cutting every fortnight and roses that need deadheading every week. Cut Tools Garden, which has supplied pruning tools from Mkondeni in Pietermaritzburg since 2008, has published its full garden tools range (https://cuttools.co.za/garden-tools) for home gardeners, landscapers and maintenance teams across South Africa.
Hand pruners for every grip
The range starts with hand tools: bypass pruning shears for clean cuts on live stems, anvil shears for dry and tougher wood, compact pruners for balcony pots and herb beds, and ratchet shears that cut thick stems in stages to save the hand. There are stainless shears for wet and coastal gardens, soft-grip secateurs, a dedicated left-hand pruner, florist stem shears, rose shears, vineyard pruners and orchard shears.
Loppers and reach
For branches too thick for secateurs there are mini, standard bypass, anvil, telescopic and compound action loppers, plus a long-reach pruner for growth that is hard to get at without climbing into a bed. Standard bypass loppers run from about 600 mm to 900 mm overall and typically cut 30 mm to 40 mm of green wood, with aluminium handles for all-day work or steel for a heavier feel.
“Bypass on anything alive, anvil on deadwood. That’s the rule we give everyone,” said the company’s tool care technician. “A bypass blade slices like scissors and leaves a clean cut the plant can close. An anvil crushes a little, which doesn’t matter on dry wood, but it bruises green stems, and in our humidity a bruised stem heals slowly.”
Servicing and parts
Cut Tools Garden also keeps tools working once they are sold. Its tool care services cover blade sharpening, secateur, lopper and hedge shear servicing, spring and grip replacement, pivot adjustment, rust removal, deep cleaning of sap and grime, parts fitting and routine inspections. Replacement springs are matched by length, wire thickness and loop shape, so it helps to compare the old one before ordering.
Orders and service bookings go through the Cut Tools Garden website (https://cuttools.co.za/), with supply across South Africa from the Pietermaritzburg base.
