Johannesburg, 18 February 2019 – TEDx comes to Mahikeng, finally
The inaugural TEDxMahikeng conference takes place on Friday 29 March 2019, at North West University, Mahikeng Campus. The event is hosted with the support of North West University. TEDxMahikeng is an independently organised event, licensed by TED, a media platform and global movement focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas. TED is widely known for its ubiquitous TED Talks videos. TEDxMahikeng is organised by a dedicated team of homegrown and locally based volunteers led by Ithateng Mokgoro, Joan Legalamitlwa, and Galefele Molema.
“We do this event not for political reasons, monetary reward, or personal gain,” said spokesperson and co-curator Joan Legalamitlwa. “We do it because we truly believe in the power of ideas to change the world.” The theme for this event is Pathways. “We looked back, and found that Mahikeng has followed long and winding roads, with myriad twists and turns, to get to where it is,” said Legalamitlwa, when asked to explain the theme. “Once again, this place that we call home, and love so much, must find a new way forward,” she added. “It will need to take bold steps, and follow fresh, unbeaten paths, to reach the happy place that we all seek,” she concluded.
TEDxMahikeng is presented in the famous TED format of powerful, multiple, single-minded talks, each three minutes to eighteen minutes in length. The organisers have revealed a diverse lineup of speakers and performers, all known for their pioneering, pathfinding work, in industry, government, academia and society.
