7 November 2022: Following the devastating lock-down and the loss of many jobs as a result of businesses shutting down it has become critically= important to develop small businesses and thereby create sustainable livelihoods. Every year companies are required to invest in Enterprise & Supplier Development as part of their BBBEE compliance. The question is, have these ESD investments and ESD programmes delivered on their objective?
The Enterprise & Supplier (ESD) Indaba is a platform for ESD practitioners and all stakeholders in ESD and economic development to meet and engage on how ESD funds can best be utilised to ensure that thriving enterprises are developed.
With billions spent on ESD every year, it is critical that we are able to see measurable impact on the SME, supplier and
economic landscape.
Destiny Media Africa will be hosting the ESD Indaba in partnership with Coega Development Corporation and Engeli. Coega has been the backbone of economic development in the Eastern Cape and we are honoured to have them partner with the ESD Indaba.
“As the CDC, we pride ourselves in observing and pioneering best practices in all aspects of socio-economic development.
The development of small enterprises is crucial to economic growth and job creation in our local communities, and we hope that our participation at this year’s ESD Indaba yields positive outcomes for the sector as it relates to partnerships and knowledge sharing.” – Mokgaetši Sebothoma,Exec Manager Coega
Engeli is the leading authority on Enterprise & Supplier Development in the Eastern Cape and has developed many sustainable enterprises and with their experience we hope to provide delegates with meaningful insights.
“With Engeli’s experience as a facilitator of B-BBEE solutions, we have seen the good and the bad of ESD. Where ESD is implemented effectively but unfortunately also saw where things went horribly wrong. As a catalyst in this space, we realise that it is time to surface the dissonance, so that we can craft and implement ESD solutions where everybody wins. The ESD Indaba becomes that space – not for talk shops, but where we can explore models for authentic and impactful ESD practice.” Dr Ricardo Dames, CEO Engeli
These two organisations provide the perfect platform for the theme of the ESD Indaba: “Local solutions for greater local impact.” The ESD Indaba will provide insights and knowledge on how ESD programmes and budgets can ensure that the local communities and enterprises benefit from these programmes and are able to access supply chains. Furthermore we will unpack how can ESD initiatives unlock now industries particularly within the 4th Industrial & Artificial Intelligence Revolution.
