Berea’s “Diamond” celebrates 60 years of living the good life!

Musgrave Centre in its original form, is one of the first suburban shopping centres in South Africa.

Constructed in the late 1950’s and featuring Heanwoods Hardware Store, a florist, hobby shop, CNA, a post office, a coffee shop, a library, some medical practitioners as well as a restaurant, it was definitely the place to be. Many remember the centre as having just one level with a single passage-way with shops on either side.

The first of the many revamps and expansions took place in the early 70s, where additional floors were added. Adams Bookstore and the cinema came along a few years thereafter.

Musgrave Centre has come a long way since its origin, and to celebrate this momentous occasion as one of KwaZulu-Natal’s oldest “grande dame” shopping centres, Musgrave Centre is about to rejoice their diamond anniversary this year.

The birthday festivities will conclude with a grand finale live draw and cake cutting celebration on Thursday, November 8th at 6pm, where the winners will be announced for the cruise and diamond necklace.

“Musgrave Centre has undergone a number of changes by continuously adapting to the changing needs of the community it serves. Some of the current developments to the centre include changes to the tenant mix, as well as a number of new stores that will be opening this year, including that of, Seventh Park Hair and Vida e Caffé. Exciting developments to some of the existing tenants is the fresh Panarottis play centre as well as the new Playworks Mystery Escape Room and Combat Laser Tag providing additional entertainment aspects to the mall,” states General Manager Mariam Omarjee.

“To take Musgrave Centre into the future, soon the centre will be offering ultra-fast free WiFi to shoppers and if you download the SmartMall App you will receive 1 GB of free data per day at the centre.
