Casual Day in Hout Bay

You are here: Home / Entertainment / Casual Day in Hout Bay

(MyPR.co.za) August 19, 2014 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Entertainment Edit This Article

Casual Day celebrates its 20th birthday this year. The theme for 2014 is ‘Bring out the Bling’ and the colour for the year is Dazzle Blue. Put on your dancing shoes and dress up, not down, for this year’s Casual Day. Casual Day is on Friday 5 September.

More than 2 million South Africans participated in Casual Day last year. For the first time ever, Hout Bay is a bona fide participant in Casual Day – get your stickers from Spar from 25 July. The proceeds of Casual Day go to ensure the sustainability of Bethesda Hout Bay Association for Persons with Disabilities, which is run by Priscilla Jansen. Priscilla is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Western Cape Association for Persons with Disabilities.

The Hout Bay Harbour will also be painting the town dazzle blue on the evening of 5 September. So bring out the bling if you are going down to the market on Casual Day.

Casual Day ambassador for the area, Jabulile Ngwenya, visited the harbour this week to kickstart Bethesda APD’s Casual Day campaign. Born deaf, Jabulile Ngwenya has a gift for words and language. She is a writer and communications strategist. “Our ambassadors are persons with disabilities or people who have dedicated themselves to fighting for the rights of persons with disabilities,” says project leader Celeste Vinassa. “They speak from experience and knowledge about disability. It’s called ‘self-advocacy’. They are all people who have overcome great adversity, and are now ready to help Casual Day with its evolution.”

Priscilla says “We really appreciate the support we get from the Hout Bay community and challenge everyone to put the fun back into fundraising. Casual Day gives South Africans the opportunity to be creative and have fun while contributing to the betterment of society. It is community spirit in action. The funds are raised as a result of a R10 donation for a Casual Day sticker.”
