Leading gas braai manufacturers, Chad-O-Chef, has chosen the ideal space to honour their milestone anniversary – the Fire & Feast Meat Festival presented by Crown National. This celebration of flames, feast and fun, is all taking place at Joburg’s Ticketpro Dome from 8 to 10 June 2018.
An entrenched family organisation, Chad-O-Chef will be sponsoring its fantastic gas braai range at this year’s Braaitology, matching the quality meats and eats with its superior product. Celebrating 35 years of creating high-end gas products – gas braais, extractor systems, and flueless gas fireplaces – Chad-O-Chef continues to design and innovate under the leadership of director, Liezel Andrews. Daughter of the organisation’s founder, Ronald Hollander, Andrews has stood by her father’s belief that employees are part of the extended family and must be treated as such.
“We are one BIG family at Chad-O-Chef,” said Andrews. “Some of our employees have been with us between 25 and 30 years. We treat our employees like family and their loyalty, in return, has blessed us tremendously. “
In her matric year, Andrews began helping out at Chad-O-Chef, performing administrative-related duties during her school holidays and then started work half-day her first year out of school while studying. Over the years, she learnt all aspects of the business and eventually took on the role as director of the company.
“I found that my parents were harder on me than the other staff members and expected more from me,” recalled Andrews. “I learnt from a young age that this business isn’t just a job, it is my future too – so the harder I work now the better my future will be.”
Being a family business meant learning not to bring work home, particularly difficult for the Hollander family as work and home were on the same property. But Andrews said the benefits always outweighed any challenges faced.
“It was always great, knowing your boss is just your dad, and when you discuss a problem it’s just like discussing any situation with your dad. I loved that! He taught us all with so much patience and passion. His business was more than a job to him. He was a mentor to many youngsters he employed at 18, and he never treated any of us like we were inexperienced – he always listened to our ideas.”
One such youngster was one of Chad-O-Chef’s current directors, Louis Minnaar, Hollander’s nephew. His influence and direction in Louis’ life was profound and his love for the industry is shared by his beloved nephew. In fact, Louis went on to design one of Chad-O-Chef’s most popular ranges – the Sizzler Hybrid Braai – set to feature at Fire & Feast.
Although Ron Hollander tragically passed away earlier this month, his legacy of family commitment and quality service will continue under the Chad-O-Chef brand through his daughter, nephew and the extended Chad-O-Chef family. The passion with which he constructed the first domestic gas braai ever unveiled in the South African market 35 years ago is still evident in the product line today which includes the Sizzler Hybrid Braai – 10 of which will be used in the Braaitology outdoor cooking area.
Visitors to Braaitology will get the chance to sample meaty appetizers prepared by 10 South African Chef Association-appointed chefs and South African braai superhero, BraaiBoy, will be in attendance, demonstrating his unique tong-yielding antics on the Chad-O-Chef Sizzler Hybrid Braai. Willing participants will even get the chance to grill some quality cuts with the braai wonder himself.
Fire & Feast will continue to celebrate family legacy by conveniently positioning itself just a week before Father’s Day. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of this by giving dad the ultimate Father’s Day gift – tickets to this meaty event which promises a truly saucy line-up of features, among them:
