Empowering Youth From All Communities With Global Job Opportunities

You are here: Home / General Business / Empowering Youth From All Communities With Global Job Opportunities

(MyPR.co.za) July 31, 2024 By //  by MsNMahlangu Filed Under: General Business Edit This Article

Whether you’re a matriculant with limited work experience or someone who didn’t have the opportunity to study further after school, the global business services (GBS) sector offers opportunities for young people from communities throughout South Africa to build successful careers.

So, brush aside the belief that traditional career paths, like accounting or law, are the only route to success. This Youth Month, Grace Kadzere, Marketing Communications Manager at TransUnion’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) Africa, shares why young people should consider careers in the GBS sector:

1. No Degree? No Problem!
The GBS sector opens doors for multiple work-seekers with or without tertiary qualifications. If you are hungry for career growth in a constantly evolving industry and are ready to embrace opportunities to learn in-demand skills and gain relevant qualifications while earning a salary, then you are what the GBS sector is looking for.

2. Jobs A’ Plenty
According to BPESA’s latest GBS sector report, the sector is creating nearly 20,000 new jobs every year. That’s a massive opportunity for South Africans looking to start — and build — successful careers, particularly the youth in a country struggling with one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world.

3. Local Work, Global Impact
The GBS sector currently employs over 240,000 agents, around 50,000 of whom are solely supporting international businesses. Companies like TransUnion’s GCC Africa allow South Africans to gain global work experience without relocating. By offering remote positions, the GCC Africa removes geographical barriers, enabling talented individuals to build successful careers, regardless of their location.

4. Continuous Growth and Upskilling
The growing, dynamic GBS sector offers opportunities to constantly learn and grow. Instead of entering the workforce and continuing your career doing much of the same thing until retirement, you can take on different roles and continually up-skill along the way.

5. The Value of Learnerships
Even if you don’t land a full-time job after a learnership, the experience you gain via a learnership programme in the GBS sector is invaluable. You’ll gain international exposure, sought-after skills, and additional qualifications that boost your employability. Stats SA shows that prior work experience makes you seven times more likely to transition into full-time employment.

This is the reality of South Africa’s growing GBS sector.
