Lifesaving South Africa joins the Wimpy family

You are here: Home / Consumer Products / Lifesaving South Africa joins the Wimpy family

(MyPR.co.za) May 21, 2019 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Consumer Products Edit This Article

Wimpy is proud to announce that the brand is officially a new national associate sponsor to Lifesaving South Africa (LSA). The Wimpy brand is strongly ingrained in family and the moments shared by loved ones – and everyone knows that South Africa generally enjoys a warm climate throughout the year, therefore families often spend time in pools and at the beach. It is for this reason that sponsoring Lifesaving South Africa was an obvious choice for the brand.

“As a first-time sponsor of Lifesaving South Africa, we are honoured and thrilled to partner with LSA. As a brand that’s centred around family and creating moments worth sharing, Wimpy understands that South African families create a great deal of memories on our beautiful beaches. It is because of the selfless and brave men and women of LSA that all of this is possible. We hope our support for Lifesaving South Africa will further enable the lifesaving community to save lives, prevent drowning and promote water safety,” said Jacques Cronje, Marketing Executive for Wimpy.

LSA is a member of the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS), Commonwealth Lifesaving and Royal Lifesaving Society and has been SA’s peak water safety, drowning and rescue authority since 1913. It has over 7 000 registered lifeguards within 86 affiliated clubs across the country. It is also the National Association for Lifesaving and Lifesaving in Sport in South Africa. In these roles LSA leads, supports and partners with national and international organisations committed to drowning prevention, water safety supervision, emergency response and sport.

During the first year of the sponsorship, Wimpy will support LSA across its three main areas, those being:

  1. LSA Duty Squads who are responsible for ensuring that the community is safe while on the beach and in pools.
  2. The South African Lifesaving Championships which are an annual event that showcases talent that South African Lifeguards have to offer. Just recently, Jonathan Dube, a Nipper from Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club in Cape Town was awarded the Liquid Freedom Malibu racing board at the 2019 LSA Championships which were held in Port Elizabeth. This is an award that Dube is very proud of because he bought the entry ticket with his pocket money.
  3. Finally, the LSA Schools Watersmart Programme where trained facilitators go out to schools to teach children about water safety.

With the sponsorship of LSA, Wimpy aims to further entrench itself in the communities that it operates in, in a meaningful way and looks forward to a fruitful partnership with Lifesaving South Africa.
