Sne Dladla masters the art of ‘Letting Go’, surpasses 1m likes
Comedian on a mission to encourage South Africans to list and score on Gumtree.co.za this Summer
Sne Dladla is an actor, musician, dancer, and a comedian. He already has two Fleur du Cap theatre awards under his belt, and stars in BET’s first-ever locally co-produced comedy sitcom Black Tax.
The minute it was announced that artists don’t have work anymore because of lockdown, Sne’s first thought process was, how can we keep creating work so that we can keep connected, and not shut down? He levelled up on the content creation front.
He thought outside of the box and started using household items to make sounds, and he’s managed to grow his TikTok following to more than 110,000, with an accumulative 1,000,000+ likes of his content.
‘Gumtree is running this amazing campaign about it being South Africa’s fairytale marketplace’, says Dladla.
He adds, ‘Prince Charma, the Little Watermeisie, and Anushka in Wonderland all play to a global premise with a local, comedic twist. I was hooked. So I leaned into my inner Elsa.’
Sne Africanises the Disney hit here:
@stop_and_sne Elsa might have the ability to manipulate ice and snow, but the ability to #LetItGo is the REAL superpower. Post your videos using songs from your favourite fairytales and tag us using MyGumtreeFairytale, and you could be riding off into the sunset with R20k in cash ? #LetItGo #Song #Frozen #ForYouPage #Gumtree #MyGumtreeFairytale #fyp
Gumtree has launched its own campaign commercial that features a reimagined ‘Once upon a time’ narrative, featuring Cindy, the millenial:
Dladla concludes, ‘There’s the reality of all of us sitting on pre-loved, unused goods, that – if we just ‘let go’ of – will equate to about R5,000 worth of Summer time pocket money. As an artist, I know how every cent counts, in this crazy economy.’
The campaign is brought to life through the archetypes that tap into the childhood nostalgia of all of us. Prince Charma is trawling the autos section, on a hunt for some new wheels to navigate the big city.
Then there’s Marius and his Jungle Boep. We’ve all read the Jungle Book, but giving your yard the jungle look isn’t it… He’s now getting rid of his worry and strife by hopping onto the Garden section of Gumtree to get his garden back in shape.
Rapunzel’s got nothing on Refilwe, as she lets go of her Peruvian hair. It’s now made its way onto Gumtree’s Fashion section. Refilwe’s bagged a new look, for less and you can too!
The Little Watermeisie has us questioning “Why drown in a whirlpool of debt AND clutter, when your pot of gold is just an online marketplace away?”. She’s getting her life (and goods) together to get out from under the sea of items and letting them go on Gumtree’s Home & Garden Section.
Then there’s Anushka in Wonderland, whose house was starting to feel a little less like Wonderland, and more like the Mad Hatter’s world. That’s why she’s downsizing her life and listing her items on Gumtree. Get back your Wonderland and list goods on South Africa’s fairytale marketplace.
