Local Durbanite urges community to join to help him raise funds for his sick father

(MyPR.co.za) November 3, 2017 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Public Issues Edit This Article

Hillcrest – Social media sensation and comedian Natashia Portrag (better known as Bash with Tash) along with a number of Upper Highway businesses have stepped out with Hillcrest local, Brandon Young to encourage people of all ages from around the Durban area to join them in the MY (Mark Young) Donor Awareness Rally set to take place on the 25 November 2017.

The event was brainchild of 22-year old Brandon Young, who says that they are raising funds for his father, Mark who has both heart disease and a disease called MPGN II, otherwise known as Dense Deposit Disease (DDD). “DDD is a rare kidney disease that stops the kidneys from functioning correctly and as a result he is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. He also has an incredibly low immune system which leaves him prone to infection and as a result he has been in and out of hospital, often critical and in ICU. To try and curb the infections, we would like to hire a nurse to care for him at home. This of course is a massive expense,” Brandon explains.

This charity fundraiser is being sponsored by personal and group training experts, LiveFit, Hillcrest hair salon, Hairven, celebrity lifestyle blogger, Ruan Scheepers and of course Bash with Tash. This group of philanthropists are calling on the community to join in for a day of, comedy, fitness, food and the opportunity to not only raise awareness but change one man’s life! “I truly believe that you must be the change that you want to see and that is why we have got involved,” says Elaine Prumdeen, Owner of Hairven Hair Salon.
There will be three 20-minutes training session that will be a combination of fun cross fit and boot camp-type activities. Haven’t trained in a while? No sweat! “The session will cater for all ages and all levels of fitness, with the option to move at your own pace,” says Kyle Vahl, Owner of LiveFit. Not up to the fitness challenge? Comedian Tash promises to keep supporters entertained and the various stall owners are guaranteed to keep them well fed!

Most of all, event goers can expect to play a small role in helping the Young family not only raise awareness around kidney disease, but also help drastically improve the quality of Mark’s life which will hopefully see him well enough to get a much-needed kidney transplant. But, that’s not all Mark’s wife Belinda says that they hope to raise enough money so that they can support someone else in a similar position, “We are definitely not keeping all the money and we recognise that there are families out there a lot worse off than us. Sadly, no money in the world can by one’s good health back,” she says.

“If I could be half the man my dad is, I would be a great man and that is one of the primary reasons that I am doing this. Please come and support us, you will not regret it,” Brandon concludes.

MY Donor Awareness Rally will take place at Shongweni Polo Pony Club.

Tickets available for R80 at Hairven Salon in Heritage Market and LiveFit Gym in Gilllitts.
