Wayne Parnell made an admirable comeback from injury and played a crucial role in South Africa’s 12-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20 International on Friday in Colombo.
According to an official press release from Cricket South Africa, Parnell says he is relieved to be back on the park after a frustrating period on the sidelines.
“It’s great to be back in the Proteas’ set-up,” Parnell said on Saturday after a light training session in Hambantota. “It’s been frustrating being out injured for almost eight months so it was good to come back with a win.”
He had match-winning figures of two for eight in three overs, and executed a brilliant show of death bowling that included a maiden over in which he took 2 wickets.
“The 19th over is obviously an important one so I was happy to get it right,” Parnell said. “Death bowling is such a fickle art, some days you get it right and some days it doesn’t go so well, I’m just happy that I could make a contribution towards the victory.
“I’ve been working a lot with Vincent Barnes behind the scenes,” he added. “We’ve been working on a few technical aspects which will hopefully come right on the field.”
