The experience enforced globally by the COVID-19 pandemic has brought educators to the point of questioning the purpose of education – whether it needs to be redefined, and to what extent.
Through the years, educators have grappled with this question against varying historical backdrops. During previous Future of Education Summits, leading voices across the education sector, explored education’s response to technological development in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and practical changes and developments in learning methods and curricula.
The pandemic has further catapulted the need for technological innovation in education delivery and in the workplace. Remote working has seen a significant increase, and skills needed in the workplace are evolving.
According to a study on remote working conditions in South Africa, conducted by Michael Page, 26% of their respondents were working remotely pre-COVID, this number increased to 79% during lockdown.
On the brink of societal change, we need to redefine the purpose of education, and how this purpose in turn will inform areas in the education system, such as leadership, curriculum development, skills and capacity building, psychological impact, technology and teaching methodology, wider-ranging credentials and financing.
On the 29th of July, from 10h00 CAT, through a series of expert panel discussions, CNBC Africa; leader in business, financial data, news and insight, in partnership with FORBES AFRICA and prominent sponsors across the education and tech industries, will bring together esteemed speakers from across the globe, when hosting their second virtual and 7th Annual Future of Education Summit. This year’s event will explore the current state of education, in a world still grappling the effects of the pandemic, and set about to redefine the purpose of education.
“Education has been disrupted significantly and innovation is an important pathway to the future. It’s an opportune time for us to redefine at the purpose of education so that our future generations are geared to serve the future needs of humanity. I am looking forward to this year’s discussions that will be strengthening the foundations of our industry.” says Rakesh Wahi, Founder of the Future of Education Summit, and Co-Founder, ABN Group
Similar to last year, attendees will again have the opportunity to register and attend the summit free of charge on the virtual event platform, Hopin, and can look forward to more than 5 hours’ worth of insightful discussions, unpacking challenges the sector faces exploring innovative and creative solutions, and taking an in-depth look into the education system as it currently stands.
