The OG Movement: A Cape Town Tribute to the People Who Shape Local Culture

You are here: Home / Entertainment / The OG Movement: A Cape Town Tribute to the People Who Shape Local Culture

(MyPR.co.za) February 26, 2026 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Entertainment Edit This Article

Cape Town’s neighbourhoods are built on more than landmarks and history, they’re shaped by the people who keep culture alive. From the corner-shop mentors to local creatives redefining style, these everyday voices form the soul of the Mother City. And yet, their stories rarely receive the platform or visibility they deserve.

It’s this gap, the idea to celebrate the unsung heroes of Cape Town’s communities, that has sparked a new creative movement rooted in pride, identity, and local influence: The OG Movement: OG Cape Icons. Timeless Flavour.

Introducing The OG Movement

The OG Movement is a city-wide storytelling and street-art initiative that recognises the original voices (“OGs”) who contribute to the character of their neighbourhoods. It shines a light on the generations who have shaped community identity past, present, and rising. By celebrating these OG Cape Icons, the project draws a direct parallel with JiVE’s own legacy: a brand that has been part of Cape Town life for generations, timeless in its flavour and iconic in its presence.

To bring the project to life, the initiative partners with Cape Town visual artist Bushywopp, known for his expressive, youth-driven work that champions belonging, colour, and lived experience.

Why JiVE Is Championing OG Cape Icons

As a brand woven into Cape Town’s everyday life, from “babbi” shops to summer beach days and family gatherings, JiVE has long been part of the cultural fabric of local communities. With its refreshed label, the campaign shifts the spotlight outward: from the product to the people who have shaped the places JiVE has lived in for generations.

The OG Movement aligns with JiVE’s ethos of celebrating real Cape Town identity, vibrant, expressive, intergenerational, and proudly homegrown.

OG Cape Icons. Timeless Flavour.

This project allows JiVE to invest back into the communities that have supported the brand and to help amplify the voices that make Cape Town what it is.

Woodstock: The First OG Canvas

The first mural in the series will be unveiled in Woodstock, a neighbourhood celebrated for its creative pulse, rich heritage, and vibrant community spirit. More than a decorative installation, the artwork is envisioned as a public tribute to the makers, mentors, leaders, and everyday legends who give Woodstock its unmistakable heartbeat.
The mural invites locals and visitors to ask: Who are the OGs of my neighbourhood? Who shaped my story? What does community pride look like here?

Art That Belongs to the Community

Bushywopp’s bold, character-driven style makes him the ideal artist to visually honour Cape Town’s OGs. His work captures the joy, resilience, and humour that define local youth culture.

Speaking about the project, he shares: “My art celebrates our essence, colour, personality, and that unmistakable Cape energy. The OG Movement is about giving credit to the people who inspire us daily. It’s about pride and connection.”

He adds: “This isn’t just a mural, it’s a message for the neighbourhood. It’s for the people first, just like JiVE, a timeless part of our Cape Town communities.”
