The Constantia Glen flagship red has yet again stepped into the limelight on the world stage with the 2015 vintage bringing home a gold medal from the 2019 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London.
Constantia Glen FIVE 2015 scored a whopping 96 points out of 100 points at this prestigious international competition. Earlier this year the same wine was awarded platinum at the esteemed Decanter World Wine Awards held annually in London.
Full of praise for the FIVE 2015, the IWSC judges described this Bordeaux-style blend as “fragrant fruits of the forest on the nose, and spiced blackberries with vanilla custard making a delicious statement on the intense palate”.
For the past 50 years, the IWCS has aimed to award excellence in international wines and spirits worldwide, encouraging the recognition for quality products.
Meticulously crafted from the grapes grown on the estate, this blend of 33% Cabernet Franc, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 17% Merlot and 13% Malbec, expresses a broad spectrum of savoury flavours centred around a vibrant core of cassis and black cherries. This compelling wine was matured for 18 months in 75% new and 25% second-fill French oak barrels.
“The predominance of Cabernet Franc makes this vintage particularly enjoyable. The spectacular 2015 vintage with slightly warmer than usual ripening conditions produced amazing Cabernet Franc from our estate-grown vineyards, and it made sense to highlight it in this vintage of the FIVE. The wine shows restraint, lively freshness, precision and length,” says winemaker Justin van Wyk.
The award-winning Constantia Glen FIVE 2015 is available directly from the estate, as well as at fine dining restaurants and boutique wine shops. It sells at the cellar door for R420 per bottle.
