On 3 April 2021, Artyli.com Gallery hosted a unique exhibition with some of South African’s finest artists as we transition into the new month. Nestled in the heart of Johannesburg, opposite the iconic 44 Stanley Street in Milpark, the gallery is hosting an inspired group exhibition entitled “Captcha Colour”.
It’s been a year since South Africa went into lockdown and as we have all had to grapple and adjust to a new way of living, we still need to express our humanity and come together as a community, and celebrating art creates that space for us. Now more than ever is a time to appreciate our South African artists. “Art is an expression of what it means to be human. During times of a pandemic, art allows us to amplify important voices and messages. We couldn’t think of a better time to gather some of the country’s finest artists to collectively exhibit during these difficult times,” says Karen Cullinan from Artyli.com.
The talented Andrew Ntshabele is one of the brilliant artists who will be showcasing their work on the day. Andrew will introduce his solo exhibition entitled “Encounters.” Ntshabele’s expresses his groundbreaking and joyful storytelling in a unique way in mixed media on found newspaper, postcards and musical score backgrounds. Born in the small rural town of Moruleng in the North West province of South Africa, Andrew is a rising star who has participated in several curated group exhibitions. One of Andrew’s most notable achievements was receiving the painting merit award at the Ekurhuleni 2012 Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards. He was also commissioned to paint a portrait of a mine worker for the Exxaro portrait project in 2012 of Mr. Derek Hanekom (Minister of Tourism). Andrew also exhibited at the Turbine art fair in 2015 as part of the emerging artists’ mentorship programme hosted by the Assemblage Studios and Fresh Produce.
“The pandemic has presented many challenges but is has also inspired my work too. My work has always been enthused by social-emotional commentary which has led me to incorporate more than one medium in my paintings,” says Ntshabele.
The exhibition will be open from 03 April – 30 May 2021.
