With the current water crises, high food inflation and high rate of unemployment low to average income households are the hardest hit because a third of their expenditure goes to food, more than three times the proportion that wealthier families spend.
Low and average income households with 1 or 2 bread winners are now forced to move to the city closer to their place of work in order to cut down travelling costs or to seek work.
City Life provides some relief in the form of affordable housing rentals to the sector of the population that earn too much to qualify for RDP or state subsidized houses and not enough to enter the private housing market.
When you decide to move to the city there are many factors to take into consideration such as affordability, safety, security, hygiene, utilities etc. “When I moved to the city 3 years ago I heard about City Life. My rent is R1600 per month and it includes utilities, there is security patrolling the floors, cleaners that keep the building clean every day, you can only enter the building if your finger print is on their access systems it is so safe and plus I get free uncapped WiFi when I am in the building, there is also washing machines and dryers/wash lines in the building” says a tenant staying at City Life in Durban CBD.
‘Currently we are experiencing a high demand with 0 residential vacancies in our buildings and a waiting list of over 200 applicants wanting to stay at City Life Durban’ says the marketing department at City Life.
