Hundred-percent black female-owned ad agency, Click Africa Digital, has launched in earnest this year. Based in Cape Town, its mission is to spark digital transformation throughout the country.

Founder Jade Wyngaardt started Click Africa in 2015 but reined in its quick rise after learning she had cancer. She was three months pregnant with twins at the time. Jade has since come out the other side, the babies are doing well and the full-service digital agency is growing again. Giving up was never an option.

“I terms of my own story, it’s always been one of being disadvantaged and persevering through that,” says Jade. “I’m not the kind of person to take the closed door and walk away.”

Always an entrepreneur, some of her fondest memories include selling pillows when she was nine and using her allowance to buy beads, make bracelets and ship them for profit during high school. She recalls that necessity drove her, along with the knowledge that a better version of her waited behind every obstacle.

Jade found digital after graduating from school and immediately fell in love with the industry’s constant need for innovation. She also recognised her new earning potential.

“I liked that I could monetise my skill set,” says Jade. “This wasn’t a product I needed to purchase, redo and then sell at a margin. I was the product.”

She started Click Africa when she realised that not enough people of colour had the same opportunity.

Today, Jade’s team brings together a wealth of experience from the agency, corporate and publishing worlds, and has serviced clients in a number of categories, including health and fitness, travel and automobile. The team’s mission is to help their clients punch harder in the market. But they also look to recruit able-bodied learners and learners with functional disabilities from various learnership programmes. Click Africa will mentor them in the context of live briefs, and oversee all of their work.

By mentoring candidates in areas such as SEO, PPC, content and social media, the agency intends to open digital to a broader range of communities.

“We want to empower small businesses and get people of colour skilled in digital,” says Jade. In this way, she and her team hope to genuinely address some of South Africa’s socio-economic issues. Their belief is that digital is for everyone.
