Sip and sample at the Vineyard Hotel
Celebrate November’s beautiful, balmy evenings and the onset of summer by enjoying some of South Africa’s top wines in the Vineyard Hotel’s Garden Lounge. With a mix of both young, boutique wines and distinguished Cap Classique wines, the hotel invites guests and visitors to join them on a delicious tour of local flavours.
Tastings for the month begin on 2 November with Nativo wines. Handcrafted by the Hughes family, a young wine venture in Malmesbury, their Organic Certified Nativo Red and Nativo White bear a distinctive local flavour that is both pure and unpretentious. Their winemaking is done in accordance with the rigorous guidelines put in place by the Swartland Independent Producers (SIP), ensuring a naturally produced wine with a real sense of origin.
On 9 October, guests will be able to enjoy a selection of Cap Classique wines from the relatively new cellars of Charles Fox in Elgin. Having been on the market since late 2012, their world class bubbly has rapidly made a name for itself among the discerning South African market and they are finding it hard to keep up with the demand for their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Wines from leading South African ambassador and sportsman Ernie Els will be showcased on 16 November. Having ventured into his big dream of wine making in 1999, Els produces wine in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch. Most famous for his excellent reds, he has taken to this venture like a fish to water, famously saying: “Wine is like golf — in both endeavours nature has the last ruling.”
On 23 November wines from family-owned Paul Cluver in the Elgin Valley will be on the table. Recognised as pioneers of wine in the area, the land has been owned by the Cluver family since 1896 and four of the five Cluver siblings are still involved in the business. They are probably best known for their Teutonic-inspired, late harvest dessert wines and delightful gewürztraminers.
The final tasting lined up for November is on 30 November with Sumsa?e Wines. Tucked away in Agterkliphoogte in the Robertson area, this boutique cellar offers carefully hand-crafted wines, produced by the Erasmus family whose ancestors started out on the farm in 1810. Best known for their Michelangelo award winning Chardonnay, Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc, Sumsa?e Wines also boasts a fine Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A representative from each of the respective estates will host the hour-long tastings from 18h00. Tastings take place on Mondays only and are free of charge.
