Construction by Numbers: Serenity Hills Celebrates the Completion of Phase 1

You are here: Home / Property / Construction by Numbers: Serenity Hills Celebrates the Completion of Phase 1

(MyPR.co.za) February 4, 2025 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Property Edit This Article

Just 12 months after breaking ground on Margate’s first eco-focused estate – and only one year after the start of the construction for the homes – Serenity Hills has successfully concluded Phase 1 of this in-demand development, with plans for Phase 2 underway.

“From our first announcement in May 2022, interest has continued to grow in this quality residential estate with coastal properties attracting interest from international investors,” commented Reece Daniel, developer of the eco-focused estate, Serenity Hills.

“We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved in the first phase of development, with our first residents taking occupation in 2024. There are lots of exciting new plans for the year ahead, with only a few exclusive plots at unbeatable pricing in Phase 1 still available for discerning buyers.”

Serenity Hills Phase 1 Statistics

  • Jobs created in Phase 1: +- 450 people
  • Number of paver bricks laid by hand: 600 000
  • Hours worked with Top Dog Construction as the main contractor: 350 000h
  • Time taken to brick a house from foundation to roof height: 2 days
  • Time worked during the 12-month construction period: 320 days
  • Number of indigenous plants added: 1 260

This eco-focused estate on the KZN South Coast is set within coastal forest, rocky outcrops, and rolling hills overlooking the Indian Ocean. Prior to Phase 1 construction, Serenity Hills had already received national attention with President Cyril Ramaphosa noting its significant national investment contribution at the 5th SA Investment Conference (SAIC). This is supported by international investors, with buyers coming from as far as the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany.

With sustainability at its heart, some 70 hectares of the 120-hectare estate are being retained for pristine conservation. The latest introduction of Grey Duiker and Bush Buck last week marks the start of wildlife reintroduction into this conservation area, further supporting the local ecosystem.

This environmental ethos extends to the use of all building materials and home design with the layout and airflow calculated by an Energy Efficiency consultant. All units are fitted with gas installation, solar-ready electrical installation to support backup power systems, and gutters for rain harvesting collection, with on-site reservoirs to supplement the water supply.

State-of-the-art security measures and the popular coastal location keep the development in demand, with residents enjoying all-inclusive facilities. Among these are the clubhouse, extensive trails through the 70ha private conservation, artistic workshops and the award-winning The Packshed restaurant with the monthly Night Market, and Sweet Gang & Friends Farm Stall.

The developers also seek to enhance the area through community-focused projects. This is evidenced by the Serenity Hills Skills Upliftment Center established by the Wenger family in 2015. Sam Wenger, now the Development Director for Serenity Hills, ensures this community initiative remains an integral part of the estate, with ongoing projects such as The Sweetbike Community Project which refurbishes donated bikes for South African schoolchildren.
