Against the backdrop of the global theme “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”, and momentous agenda of events, the FHR is set to kick-start it’s 16 Days of Activism campaign on dialogues focusing on Rape and Violence. The Gender Programme Unit of the FHR will deliver a keynote address on Domestic Violence & Rape at an event hosted by Statistics South Africa on the 25th of November 2022. The event to be attended by the Foundations’ stakeholders including the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, is closely linked to objective three of the Masibambisane Programme-“Recruit and Empower community members to advocate and protect those affected by of GBV or those at risk”
Parallel to the keynote is a capacity building event happening in Kwa Zulu Natal hosted by Umngeni Unemployed Graduates Forum (NPO) at Empophomeni community hall. The FHR Masibambisane Programme will be part of the days’ activities which include an awareness session, and a peaceful walk.
On the 29th of November 2022, the Masibambisane Programme will be collaborating with Sisterhood Heroines on a campaign that “seeks to address issues faced by vulnerable groups including women, girls and boys, LGBTI communities and people with disabilities”. The collaborative event which will be attended by 200 participants including the FHR funder, the European Union, survivors of Gender Based Violence, traditional and religious leaders and men’s groups is set to commence with a silent peaceful march at Pixley ka Seme District in De Aar, Kimberley followed by a dialogue session where stakeholders will deliver messages of support in addressing GBVF.
Other key collaborative events that the FHR’s Masibambisane Programme will be a part of include the SEED foundation 16 days of Activism event to be held on the 8th December in the Free-state Province and to wrap up the commemorative events, a candlelight ceremony will take on the 9th of December 2022 at Mpumalanga Province.
