iER App: Your Lifeline In Moments Of Crisis

You are here: Home / Consumer Products / iER App: Your Lifeline In Moments Of Crisis

(MyPR.co.za) May 7, 2024 By //  by Andrea Caknis Filed Under: Consumer Products Edit This Article

In a world where emergencies can strike at any moment, timely and reliable emergency response can mean the difference between life and death.

Enter Integrated Emergency Response (iER), a comprehensive emergency response service that offers fast, reliable assistance 24/7.

Launched in 2016, the iER app is accessible on Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS smartphones, ensuring users maintain a constant connection to emergency services. With just a mobile internet connection and activated location services, the app enables users to send out alerts for immediate assistance. Whether it’s responding to a medical emergency, needing police intervention, or handling any other urgent situation, the iER app provides crucial peace of mind exactly when it’s most needed.

iER’s Impactful Performance

As public emergency services struggle with inefficiency, the iER app stands out as a beacon of hope and reliability.

February and May showcased iER’s critical role in managing emergencies. Over these two months, the service handled various incidents, from medical emergencies and vehicle accidents to violent crimes and domestic disputes.

These figures underline the extensive reach and reliability of iER in providing immediate help across various emergencies:

  • Medical Dispatches: Dominating the emergency types, there were 1,342 cases in February and 1,281 in May.
  • Vehicle Incidents: Including motor vehicle accidents, these cases totaled 1,298 in February and 1,170 in May, highlighting the frequent need for roadside assistance.
  • Domestic Violence: A troubling but vital area of their work, iER addressed 303 incidents in February and 257 in May.
  • Break-ins and Theft: These crimes remained high, with 460 incidents in February and 395 in May, reflecting ongoing security challenges.

Contrasting Public Emergency Services

While iER has proven its efficacy, the situation with public emergency services, especially in the Eastern Cape, has been less than satisfactory.

The 10111 emergency call centres, which are supposed to be a lifeline for those in distress, have been plagued by inefficiencies. Reports indicate that during the financial years from 2021 to 2024, many emergency calls were either unanswered or abandoned.

In Gqeberha, a staggering 57,455 calls were abandoned, and another 110,493 calls dropped in the 2021/2022 financial year alone.

East London saw 22,505 abandoned calls and significant numbers of dropped calls over two years.

Komani and Mthatha lacked systems to even measure abandoned or dropped calls, indicating a severe lack of accountability and technical support.

These statistics paint a grim picture of the reliability of public emergency services, leaving many citizens vulnerable in times of crisis.

Systemic Issues and Community Impact

The failure of these systems has dire consequences. Instances like unanswered calls mean that residents cannot rely on these services to dispatch the necessary help during critical moments when every second counts.

This has been exacerbated by technical failures, understaffing, and outdated systems, which further impede the effectiveness of emergency response.

Political oversight has also been lacking. Despite these issues being known for years and brought to the attention of MEC of Community Safety Xolile Nqatha, more progress has yet to be made. This stagnation in improving the emergency call system puts countless lives at risk, underscoring the importance of alternative services like iER.

The Essential Role of iER

In contrast to the faltering public emergency services, iER offers a robust and efficient alternative. Its ability to handle a high volume of diverse emergencies with prompt responses is not just impressive; it’s life-saving. The service’s use of technology and a well-coordinated network ensures that whether someone is facing a medical emergency or a break-in, help is on the way without delay.

Moreover, iER’s supportive community presence has fostered a sense of security among its users. Many have turned to iER not just for emergency interventions but for peace of mind, knowing that in their most vulnerable moments, they won’t be left unaided.

As South Africa grapples with the limitations of its public emergency services, the necessity for efficient, reliable alternatives becomes ever more apparent. Life is full of surprises, and reliable response systems are crucial in emergencies. iER fills this gap and does so with professionalism and care that sets a new standard for emergency response services.
