Let’s Paint the Golf Course Pink for Cancer Awareness

You are here: Home / Health / Let’s Paint the Golf Course Pink for Cancer Awareness

(MyPR.co.za) January 28, 2026 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Health Edit This Article

The non-profit organisation, Screen Her Save Her (SHSH) is painting Woodhill Country Club pink to provide 365 women with a free mammogram as part breast cancer prevention efforts. Organiser, Annelize Brits, says they will host a golf day on Thursday, 19 March 2026, to raise funds to assist women without the luxury of a medical aid to get screened.

‘I have experienced first-hand what the words ‘early detection’ means. The fact that I went for a routine mammogram saved my life. We want to paint Woodhill Country Club pink with our presence and thereby make our dream a reality, to give at least 365 women without medical aid the chance to take their health into their own hands,’ she says.

SHSH Director, Rosa-Marie Cox-Cronje says they have initiated the drive because of the fact that screening and the focus on breast cancer awareness should not just be isolated to October, when we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She says for many this is just another month with the occasional pink ribbon being spotted, however, for many women the “pink ribbon” is a reality.

‘Breast cancer is the most common cancer among South African women, yet many still do not undergo screening because they cannot afford it. A single screening can mean the difference between detecting cancer early, when it is most treatable, and discovering it too late,’ she explains.

Cox-Cronje says the reality is that many women do not have access to mammograms and scans. She says SHSH does endeavor to maximize access to screening via their mobile breast cancer screening unit, which visits towns and cities across the country throughout the year.

“Through our mobile breast cancer screening units, we bring world-class mammography and ultrasound services directly to communities. Each unit is staffed by a team of women who provide private, comfortable and compassionate care — because we know that breast cancer screening is a deeply personal experience, and that is why each unit has a team of women who are not only knowledgeable but also know how to empathize with women.” says Cox-Cronje.

But many women who visit the mobile unit do not have the financial means to pay for the service.

‘That is why it is crucial for SHSH to raise funds so that these women can continue to be helped. Our mission is simple: to expand access to screenings for women who would otherwise go without, and to educate communities about breast health and the vital value of early detection.’

Annelize Brits says the golf day will allow companies, organisations and individuals to be hands-on in the fight against breast cancer. She says they can sponsor a hole for R4900 or enter a 4-member team for R5500. There are also opportunities for other sponsorships or items to be auctioned off.
