MD sets sights on new target.

You are here: Home / Sports / MD sets sights on new target.

(MyPR.co.za) July 31, 2015 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Sports Edit This Article

Lear Corporation MD Giuseppe Tagliaferri is not only a sharp shooting executive, he is one of handful of local clay target shooters to earn South African colours. He has earned his place to represent South Africa in two Clay target shooting disciplines in one year with these being held on two continents one being the ATA World Championships in Sparta USA and the European Championship in Cestas France.

Tagliaferri, who is responsible for the Fortune 500 Company’s South African Business unit, will replace the boardroom for the range when travelling to the European DTL Clay target competition in Cesta near Bordeaux in France from 14 to 16 August.

Interestingly, while he is only the second Port Elizabethan to earn national colours in the last 5 years, the other was another automotive doyen, Clive Taverner, of the Tavcor motor group, who represented SA at the world championships in Italy last year.

The 44-year old Tagliaferri “grew up with shooting” but has only been a member of the Port Elizabeth clay target club for two years, following in his grandfather’s footsteps by taking up the sport officially.

Chairman of the Port Elizabeth clay target club, Jimmy Prideaux expects big things of Tagliaferri.

“We are very proud of Giuseppe’s achievement by earning recognition among South Africa’s best but I know he will surprise his international peers with great scores and fly the South African flag high.”

Clay target shooting requires an exceptionally high level of concentration, hand-eye co ordination and composure under extreme competitive pressure as the moving targets fly in different directions, once released by a voice activated speaker system

Tagilaferri believes the skills developed in Lear over 20 years, from when he joined as an engineer, will assist.

“Where as 70% of a shooters success is based on pure shooting mechanics, I strongly believe 25% comes through mental focus and a further 5% from self management,” he says.

Tagliaferri is responsible for Lear’s seating plants in Rosslyn, Port Elizabeth and East London

The company provides complete seating and electrical systems worldwide. With 2014 sales of $17.7 billion for the global group, Lear ranks #174 among the Fortune 500.
