Note to Editors
Old Mutual has one of the most comprehensive staff volunteerism programmes in the country with almost 30-35% of our employees across South Africa engaged in one form of volunteerism or another. Our comprehensive staff volunteer programmes are designed to integrate our company and our employees into the social fabric of the local communities in which we do business. We encourage employees to care for the community through a variety of initiatives. Such as
- Staff Community Builder –Employees who actively volunteer their personal time towards community development, can receive financial support up to R20000 to the organisations at which they volunteer. Since inception in 1993 this programme has invested over R53 million across approximately 3 074 grassroots community projects nationally.
- Care & Share – We encourage employees to support community projects by allowing all staff one day’s ‘social responsibility’ leave to plant vegetable gardens; remove alien vegetation and clean rivers; build low-cost houses; spend time with HIV-positive babies or care for animals in distress etc.
- Payroll Giving – Staff can choose to make voluntary monthly donations from their salary to organizations which specialise in the care of HIV orphans; the elderly and terminally ill; and which help animals in distress. Every staff contribution is matched rand for rand by the Foundation.
