On Sunday the 1st of May, Nelson Mandela Bay’s funnest run returns.
The one10run concept of fun is simple: 1 person or 1 team run for 10 hours. It is an attempt to see how many loops “one” can run (or walk) in “10” hours.
The 5km loop at Grass Roof provides a wonderful “nature-in-town” experience with the opportunity to be cheered on loudly along the way – bring your supporters! This was true of the first edition held in 2019. And while the weather did what Nelson Mandela Bay’s weather does, changed regularly, participants had a lot of fun in “The Tunnel”.
Teams will be able to brand themselves and their “spot” in The Tunnel to show off just how fun and/or effective they can be. The Tunnel Vibe will be led by Soul Good DJ’s, so we’re promised good music all day long.
In 2019 teams and individuals racing, running, and walking around the 5km Grass Roof parkrun route totalled nearly 400 laps, or 2000km. This all before the end was ushered by lightening and a delicious thunderstorm. There was even a life-sized rhino that graced the occasion – and OLLI is set to return.
Those who compete in teams or alone and complete their event will all receive a medal. Teams and Enduro (10-hour) participants will also receive a hotdog and drink courtesy of the Grass Roof Farmstall! The first 25 teams to register at www.amplico.world/one10run all receive a top quality PUMA running shirt.
Lucky draw prizes will be given out during the day to all who enter and partake. Businesses who wish to make use of a little extra exposure can contact the organizers to offer their prizes. There is also space in race packs to maximize brand awareness!
Along with the entertaining DJ’s, the tempting whiff from the gamut of Grass Roof kitchen’s will entice attendees and their supporters. The sit down restaurant, the Farm Stall, and the Kiosk will all be open on the day and accessible to those in attendance.
Supporters are allowed under current Covid-19 regulations, but we ask that you please do respect the suggested guidelines of mask, distance and cleanliness.
The two charities that will be supported from proceeds to this event are: One Land Love It (OLLI) and Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA). Both charities work with vulnerable species and communities to support conservation efforts. The life-sized rhino in attendance is the OLLI mascot (we ask that you please take photo’s with him, but do not climb on him… he’s not a real rhino and your extra weight can damage him). CCFA’s mantra is, “Our Planet, Our Gift, Our Responsibility”. This mantra speaks to those with spare resources to invest in areas that require attention… like we take care of our selves by running/walking and enjoying life, we can help others not only survive, but have great fun together, too.
Those that enter all go into the draw(s) for the lucky draw prizes. These may be distributed through the day, but will be given to those in attendance (unless otherwise indicated). A brief prize giving will take place at the end of proceedings once the collation of results is complete.
