The entity responsible for promoting employment growth and productivity within South Africa, has posted a remarkable turnaround. In a year preceded by a myriad of challenges including financial deficit, the departure of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ten years and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plus a forensic audit, Productivity SA has experienced a remarkable turnaround. Productivity SA is established in terms of Section 31 of the Employment Services Act, No. 4 of 2014 as a juristic person to promote employment growth and productivity
As of 01 April 2016 Productivity SA Board appointed a new CEO, Mr Mothunye Mothiba. During that Financial Year Productivity SA improved the attainment of its yearly performance to 68% for the 2016/17 year compared to 49% in the 2015/16 Financial Year. The Entity also achieved an unqualified audit opinion running for three consecutive years. To respond to its expanded mandate, The Strategic Plan 2014/15 – 2019/20 was revised and aligned to ensure that the Entity’s strategic objectives over the Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF) 2014/15 – 2019/20 enable the entity to respond to National Development Plan (NDP) objectives and the Industrial Policy Action Plan.
To root out maladministration and irregularities experienced within the Turnaround Solutions programme. Productivity SA Board commissioned an investigation. Staff found to have committed irregularities were subjected to disciplinary action and one person was dismissed. A further forensic investigation was commissioned by The Unemployed Insurance Fund (UIF) and the outcome thereof is awaited. During the 2016/2017 Financial Year, Productivity SA also continued with its strategic focus towards supporting the National Development Plan (NDP), Vision 2030; the New Growth Path and the Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP).
