(July 2014) Theatre goers will be delighted to hear that the hilarious production Tannie Dora Goes Bos returns to the Artscape Arena as part of the 8th Women’s Humanity Arts Festival taking place at the Artscape Theatre Centre from 4 to 9 August 2014.
When performed earlier this year, Tannie Dora Goes Bos played to full houses and those who missed it can now enjoy these special performances which represent the ethos of the festival theme: humanity. The festival includes, as it has for the past seven years, the disabled community, the disenfranchised community and women and men from all walks of life. The Artscape Women’s Humanity Arts Festival is Artscape’s response to highlight the lack of “humanity” which marginalised groups face on a daily basis in South Africa.
Tannie Dora goes Bos takes to the stage at the Artscape Arena on 6 and 9 August at 18:00 and 12:00 respectively. It is an open and shut case for the Franschhoek Police Department when Theadora Louw, known to all as “Tannie Dora”, confesses to the murder of Willem Johannes. But for Police Inspector Jaco Vermeulen, a former foster child of Tannie Dora, something doesn’t quite fit. As Vermeulen commences with the interrogation and the events leading up to the death of Willem slowly unfold through the eyes of the elderly, self-confessed murderer, Vermeulen soon discovers that his instincts may have been correct and nothing is as it seems.
A hilarious, dark murder mystery, Tannie Dora Goes Bos offers the perfect combination of comedy, drama and suspense from first time playwright Warren Meyer and acclaimed director Jeremeo Le Cordeur.
Founded by Le Cordeur, Vulture Productions’ body of work thus far has been a testament to his enthusiasm for breaking away from the status quo as he integrates different mediums, genres and multi-media art forms into his productions. With this very unique approach to theatre, not previously witnessed by local audiences, Vulture has garnered quite a following. With every production, Vulture continues exploring ways to inspire audiences and offer performances that are undeniably enjoyable and thought provoking.
Tannie Dora goes Bos received high praise from critics when first performed and offers a quirky, high octane take on a murder mysterywith all the ingredients of humour and characterisation that will once again have audiences rolling in the aisles.
The cast includes Andre Lombard, Anton Jeftha, Dean van Der Ventel, (as Tannie Dora) Khalil Kathrada and Kim Syster.
