When retail competition escalates, Jozi bike shops head to the track

There is something unprecedented and unmissable that is going to happen soon. It’s a battle between brands. More specifically the cycling stores of Johannesburg. Competition in the retail space is common practice but for the first time, these shops are physically going head to head on a race track. The KRUNK Race track to be held on the 12th August at Benmore Gardens in Sandton. Proceedings to kick off at 3:30pm

KRUNK Racing is a relatively new format which emerged in 2016. This wild and unpredictable format involves closing down an underground parking lot and pitting teams of cyclists against each other. Two teams of 3-4 racers race at a time. In the beginning each rider collects points for their team based on their finishing position. Points are tallied from the heats on a retro chalkboard and the teams with the top points head into the knockouts. Racing is intense and although the total distance of each race is no more than 500m the racers are maxed out sprinting from corner to corner. Added to this are wild cards which every now and then changes the rules of the game. It is not uncommon for 1st and last place to be separated by 1 second.

KRUNK Civil War takes the KRUNK format and dumps a whole lot of crazy into the mix. Jozi bike shops will wager their reputations and prize bounty to prove that they are the fastest bike shop in the city. The bounty consists of products and vouchers from their stock sheet which will be handed over to the spectators if/when they get knocked out of the race. Only one team will walk away with their pride and bounty intact.

Spectators can expect to witness cycle racing like never before. Unlike any other format a spectator will see the entire track from wherever they stand allowing them to keep a close eye on the 3.5 minute race.
