20 and Free, a new 4 part documentary series, exploring the lives of the “Born-Frees” to start Monday at 10pm on SABC 1

You are here: Home / Entertainment / 20 and Free, a new 4 part documentary series, exploring the lives of the “Born-Frees” to start Monday at 10pm on SABC 1

(MyPR.co.za) October 10, 2014 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Entertainment Edit This Article

As South Africa slowly heals from its racially charged and turbulent past, our hope and potential as a nation rests with our youth. 20 and Free is a documentary series that explores the generation born into a democratic South Africa, along with their views on our history, education, politics and moving forward as a nation.

Come Monday, 13 October 2014 at 10pm, eight “Born Frees” take centre stage as they revisit South Africa’s history and give their opinions on its future. We followed them as they explored the heritage sites that commemorate those who died in the struggle and remember the events that led to their freedom.

With the likes of Vice Chancellor of WITS University, Prof. Adam Habib, the Department of Basic Education and Professor Jonathan Jansen – Rector of the University of the Free State, we open up episode 2 with a discussion on the current education system in South Africa. We meet up and coming Valentino Thabang, born into poverty yet making a name for herself from the University of the Free State and other “Born Frees” making the most of the education they are receiving.

The first democratic vote in South Africa is a day edged in the hearts of all South Africans who witnessed the first free and fair elections in our country. The process of voting in a democratic country is one that many young people are starting to learn about. Is this right still taken as seriously as it was by those who died for our newfound freedom? We find out more about this in episode 3 by visiting schools all over the country as they vote for their ideal party.

The fourth and final episode unravels as we unpack prying issues of the modern-day 20-year-old. We look into sexual health, teenage pregnancy, crime, identity and unemployment and explore the progress being made in each of these areas.

Don’t miss 20 and Free every Monday starting on 13th October at 9pm only on SABC 1, Mzansi Fo Sho.
