Gumtree South Africa today published insights relating to an internal study that there is still some good news for the South African consumer. The brand study revealed more than 120,000 items cheaper than a *tank of fuel.
Estelle Nagel, Brand Marketing Gumtree South Africa, says, “With fuel officially surpassing the R27 per litre mark, and the light at the end of the Eskom tunnel continuing to be further from reach than ever before, Gumtree South Africa has scoured the pages of the country’s leading classifieds site to unpack bargains for R1,215 and less.”
These are the bargain highlights of the findings:

Nagel adds, “it’s becoming increasingly difficult to look on the bright side – let alone find the bright side – as a South African consumer, but classifieds sites, such as Gumtree, present an opportunity for us to sell our pre-loved goods online for a return.”
She concludes, “our research indicates the average South African is sitting on at least 17 unused items that – if sold online – could bring in an additional R4,000 (or 148 litres of petrol) of combined household income.”
*Based on the average 45l fuel tank capacity of an average South African passenger car.
